In my lifetime at least, Ultra Agents and Avatar are the only ones I can think of where a bulk of sets were flat-out not released in the UK. The first and second wave of Ultra Agents came out, but apparently the summer 2015 wave won't be available in Europe mini/sad

Re: Café Corner

Its odd that they wouldn't release Lego sets here in Europe, sure Germany is TLG's biggest Lego consumer in the world. The reason must be that the Ultra Agent line didn't do as well as they expected.

Total waste of a theme and bad business move.

While I personally don't care for the idea all that much, calling it a bad business move is very odd. Like it or not, Angry Birds still is a popular and well known property, especially among little kids, who will all want to buy these sets. Just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean it's a bad business move.

I've been reading about the history of LEGO recently, and it's pretty common for the US to get exclusive sets; it's a big market with a pretty significantly different toy market than Europe. It's also fairly common for the UK to get left out on individual or whole groups of sets, which I agree is pretty lame.

Eh, I still don't know. Having the buzz from the new sets will definitely get kids thinking about Angry Birds again. And even if it works out really bad, lets face it, LEGO isn't gonna get hurt by it. They have what we call CASH REZERVES in the hood. One line that does less than spectacular ain't gonna kill nobody.

Re: Café Corner

Does anyone know how to recover a picture after it has been deleted on a camera?

I animated a really difficult shot for Welcome to Darkmoor yesterday.  And today I animated another shot which I messed up.  I was deleting the flawed shot but I accidentally deleted a single frame from the previous shot which was absolutely essential to it.

I really don't want to re-shoot  it and I'm not sure if I'll even be able to get it right a second time because it was really hard.

Does anyone know of anything that can help?

So the Ultra Agents finally get awesome, with that dockyard villain hideout...aaaaaaand it's not coming out in the UK. Bummer.

Does that sort of thing happen a lot?  (exclusive LEGO releases, that is)  If I do succeed in my goal of relocating to the UK, that sort of problem could likely become an issue for me as well.

I remember back some years ago the theme Dino Attack was significantly different elsewhere.

I wasn't aware of the new Ultra Agents wave.  To be honest, the AnitMatter oil rig base set (I'm assuming this is the set you're referring to) looks a bit medicocre, it's got a low part and minifig count for its price, and doesn't look all that enticing.  The HQ Command ship set looks a lot more impressive, in my opinion.

A lot of LEGO themes tend to be delayed or not released in the UK.  LotR first appeared several months after it did in the US.  Galaxy Squad was only available through LEGO stores or the online shop until the second wave was released.  I was particularly aggravated that Space Police III was not available in the UK, especially since that theme had a lot of cool parts and stuff (I did manage to pick up a set whilst I was in Canada, though).  Oddly, Games was released in Europe long before it arrived in the US (I think it was something like half a year).

I didn't know Angry Birds was still a thing to be honest.  I thought LEGO The Simpsons was bad enough as is.  I'm not even sure how Angry Birds could be effectively translated into LEGO.  The plummeting popularity also calls into question this move.  Even if LEGO could afford such losses, it's not good business sense to invest in a licensed theme that is declining in popularity (particularly when there are much more interesting IPs and things like LEGO Ideas kicking around).  Oh well, in all likelihood this will be the sort of licensed theme that will stick around for a year or two and then be forgotten as people move on.

Ouch, that must hurt.

I'm no computer expert, but I do know that, in computer terms, deleting a file is more like making it invisible, in that you're removing the computer's method of locating it in its storage system.  Even after "permanent" deletion, a file still technically exists and can do so for a long time until it is overwritten by another file, which is why it's possible to retrieve files from a computer even if they've been "permanently" deleted, or even if the hard drive has been damaged.

That said, I have no idea if the same applies to camera memory cards, and you'd (probably) more or less have to be on the level of a professional software expert in order to do something like that.  In any case it's probably too much effort to go through to retrieve a single frame.  Are you absolutely certain that you need this single frame for that shot, and that you can't somehow edit or shorten it in some way?  It'd be horrible if you had to re-shoot all that.

Re: Café Corner

Well, for starters, don't take any more pictures with the camera. If you do anything/shoot anything more with it, then the file could be even more gone. Just remove the SD card and don't take more pictures.

Then there's a program for Windows called Recuva, which seems to be used for just that purpose of recovering lost files. I used it once when I though I'd deleted a video from a camera, though I ended up finding the undeleted file before doing much with the program so I don't know how effective it is. But still, I think it's your best bet.

Re: Café Corner

I have the frame!  I gave the card to my mum before shooting anything else and she used some program to recover it.  It might have been the same one Sonjira just mentioned.  So all is well now.  I was really frantic for a while there, though.

Mr Vertigo wrote:

The shot in question was a static shot showing the outside of the shop with both the front windows and elements on the roof visible.  The shop is lit both with an internal lamp and as well by the light that lights the rest of the town amplified by a white sheet of paper.

Now because I have to take the roof of to let the regular town light into the shop, it's not actually possible to show the roof and the inside of the shop through the front windows simultaneously.  So what I did was shoot the shot with the roof on and the windows dark inside, then I took a single frame at the end of the shot with the roof off and the interior lights on.  I was going to then edit the frames together to make the windows look like they are glowing with the roof still there.  So essentially that single frame was going to be pasted onto every frame from the rest of the shot.  And that's the frame that I deleted.  On top of that I had to wait 20 seconds to capture each frame and there was some other fancy effect I was also trying to pull off at the same time.

A really bad mistake on my part, but it's been recovered now and even the other shot I messed up earlier has been reanimated.

Re: Café Corner

Ah, that's good to hear! mini/smile  Glad you got out of this situation all right after all.  I wasn't aware such programs existed, which I suppose renders my response somewhat pointless.

Sounds like you're really going all out.  A twenty-second exposure must be rough (here's me thinking a one-second exposure is long).  Certainly sounds like it'll be worth the effort, though.

This is exactly what I've had to do with multiple car shots for Appetite Lost, except with a windshield instead of a roof. There was no way I could animate the figures with the over-sized windshield in place, so I shot only a single frame of the windshield in place, then removed it for the rest of the animation. It's a nice technique when you have to get to something and your giant hands don't allow for it.

Hey, gang!  I suffered yet another setback, but this one is minor.  My computer accidentally got run over.  Fortunately, the Hard drive was undamaged and I was able to backup everything.  My animation has slowed down to frozen until Labor Day, anyway, so things in my life of animation are still on schedule!

Okay, I have to ask- how did your computer get run over?

Re: Café Corner

Okay, I have to answer.  Actually I don't.  But I will.
I put it on the car and forgot that it was there and I drove off without it.  It fell off and when I realized it, it had gotten run over before I got back to it.

Thanks for answering, that makes sense. Glad the new one is up and running fine.

Re: Café Corner

Cine Brick just posted a bunch of pictures from the film festival. (Or I just now noticed them, one of the two.)

So now those of us that didn't get to go can still drool over the pictures of our films being on the big screen. mini/love
It looks like they got shots of every film, so be sure to check them out.
