Re: Critique My Frame!

The digital extension is pretty good, I didn't notice it at first glance. However the difference in exposure of the actual set and digital extension on the right side of the frame is pretty strong. If there's a way to brighten up the digital part to match it better, I think that would help sell the effect. I don't know a ton about that sort of thing, but it seems pretty doable, especially if you made the asset yourself.

Re: Critique My Frame!

Great frames! My only suggestion would be to emphasize the vast emptiness of the arctic by making the truck smaller in the frame. Really good stuff though.

Re: Critique My Frame!

thanks, I am thinking of making it in a blizzard:

what do you think?

I might try shooting it again with the goal of doing what you said NXT.

Re: Critique My Frame!

That looks SO much better @CookedCat! Although, the chroma key needs some improving.

Re: Critique My Frame!

I actually preferred the original with Dylan's suggestions of making the truck smaller, I am not really a fan of 'real' backdrops in brickfilms, I would also make the backdrop a whiter blue and not use any clouds but that's just me.

Re: Critique My Frame!

I agree with Sloth, and what's with the crazy sudden color change in the ground? I think the first one feels better put together.

Re: Critique My Frame!

the ground color change is cause it looks a little different on my screen but will be fixed, given the story, I think I will go with the blizzard, even though I kinda think I prefer the blue sky.......

Re: Critique My Frame!

I love it!
The only thing I find wrong in this shot is the sudden change of the colour in the ground, but I see that you said you'll fix it.
Plus, I think the background looks great. The fact that it's 'real' doesn't disturb me at all.
Keep up the good work.

Way cool1  really looks like the live action Lego & real background belong together!

Re: Critique My Frame!

thanks for all the feed back guys, so, in short, heres the improved frame:

Re: Critique My Frame!

Try colour correcting the captured images to blend in with the background. Use a curves editor of some sort to edit the rgb and bring up the white in the original footage to match the bright white in the background.

Re: Critique My Frame!

ok, well, I have yet to do that LMD, but thanks. here is a test of the shot in action:

Re: Critique My Frame!

I've been going kinda slow with this project of mine, and I'm kinda unsure of this shot, so I figured I might as well throw it out here for others' opinions. Basically, I need to shoot a few stills of the inside of an abandoned space ship. The space is really cramped, but like I said, this is a still shot, so I'd have no problems there.

Re: Critique My Frame!

That looks awesome. I really love that lighting, and the cramped feel. It really looks like a abandon space ship. I'm really looking forward to watching it when it comes out.

Re: Critique My Frame!

wonderful. perhaps play with the framing... throw in a dutch angle maybe?

do they turn the artifical gravity back on? if not, have the skeleton floating... that'd be amazing.

Re: Critique My Frame!

Absolutely perfect.
Claustrophobic, awesome shadows and lighting, great placement of the chain, and overall fantastic set.
You're just very lucky you don't have to animate in it. mini/wink

It looks like the hallway is framed slightly off-center, but that's literally the only 'flaw' I can find. And it's small enough you could probably ignore it and nobody will know the difference.

Re: Critique My Frame!

at the risk of spamming....
here are some more frames, I have chosen to go with blue sky as I prefer the look.

Re: Critique My Frame!

That snow looks fantastic and I also much prefer the blue sky. I wonder why are there baseplates in the first frame, but snow in all the rest? I don't know if it's just that the first frame was taken at an earlier stage, but it would look good to keep it consistent in one style.

Re: Critique My Frame!

I agree about the consistency. The snow material is more visually interesting to me, though I'm betting it's harder to animate well around. Can't imagine how much the dust on the characters must bounce around from frame to frame.

Re: Critique My Frame!

its actually surprisingly easy....

the reason is that the camera angle requires the base plates there, given they are CGI either side, it was earlier, i think it looks ok as is, but best to see it in action, shall I upload so you guys can see that?
