Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

"Giada" and "Jade", really a nameless mother & daughter team, but I thought the mother looked like "Everyday Italian's" Giada.  My wife built them for episode 3.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Looks nice, but I might change the arm color on the mom to pink, if you have them. The sleeveless makes it looks washed out. Also, the daughter is wearing long sleeves, which means she's cold, and the mother is wearing sleeveless, which means she's warm. The inconsistencies of LEGO weather...

Also, if you have some dark blue legs, those might look more like blue jeans, but I'm not sure if you're going for someone that's just been working in their yard, or if they are out on the town. The mom looks like she has been working, but the daughter looks like she is going somewhere.

But of course, those are just my opinions and personal style choices. mini/tongue

Rio...honestly man, that makes no sense.

I am literally sitting here wearing short sleeves right now, and some of my co-workers are wearing long sleeves. Surprise surprise, people wear different sleeves, and they don't have to match.

Also, blue jeans come in all sorts of colors.

Personally, I have to agree with Nathan. They look just fine to me. mini/smile

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Here's one of the main characters for a short space film I'm working on. I'm pretty sure her name will be Vega Zyro (pronounced Vay-guh Ziy-row). As you may notice, I decided to go with older, classic parts (Unitron, Insectoids, etc.)
Also, sorry that the lighting is kinda terrible. The picture was taken in a hurry.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I really like how the yellow of the helmet benefits the yellow of the torso.

That is a lovely minifig Brickcrazy, excited to see the finished project and love the use of the classic parts!

I realized that the new King's torso would go rather well with this extra jester hat I have, and it makes a pretty nice looking minifigure.

Although I am not entirely sure about the head.  I went ahead and used the king's head (which looks really nice without the big beard), however it is perhaps not the most fitting that might be chosen.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

Squid, funny you posted that. I just got the king a few weeks ago and did the exact same thing. mini/smile

Neat!
Thanks for having not post it before so I could feel clever about myself for thinking up the same idea.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I think the body and hat do complement each other well, though the epaulets and chain don't quite fit in, in my opinion.  As far as the head goes, I think a grinning or Classic Smiley face may be more fitting, though the one you have on is great if you want to go for a non-standard jester look.

Anyway, with all of these delicious minifigure parts I've recently acquired, it was somewhat inevitable that I'd end up making some minifigs.

These are some prototypes for a tentative Brickfilm about a detective, a con-man, and a guy who's dead but not really dead, which has the current imaginative working title of The Detective, the Con-Man, and the Dead Guy.  The two minifigs on the far left are essentially two versions of the same character (the as-of-yet unnamed detective), and I may yet mix and match parts from both or use other parts (thoughts?).  The one in the middle would be the dead guy, and the one on the far right is the con-man, Cyrus Frost.

Some mysterious entities:  Docteur Mort; Johann Schultz, a being of pure energy who must be housed in a specialised suit to interact with the rest of the material world, and The Watcher.

Some people who have occupations of questionable morality: The Liquidator, The Janitor (who habitually cleans up more than one kind of mess), Yellow Tracksuit Guy, and a Loan Shark (and yes, I know that joke has been made before, but I couldn't resist).

And last, but not least, meet the Think Tank.

Cool think tank.  Very punny.  Not technically a full-fledged "minifigure", syet very awesome & imaginative.

The left woman looks better.  But the woman slightly to the right probably has a better hair and face combo.  Perhaps combine them as such.  As I suggested on Flickr, perhaps her arms should grey dark grey and not white since white does not match her the pink printed on her blouse.

But that might make for too much grey, so perhaps change out her pants to something different, like dark blue.

Liam Neeson's beard looks a bit damaged.

Generally, though, I really like the style they have going.

I don't think I like the Voldy face for the top-hat fellow, perhaps try something else, possibly a skeleton face, or maybe something more normal.  Hooded guy looks really cool.  I loathe animating long cape, though.  Good luck to you in that department.

I really like the look of the yellow fellow.  That's a nice outfit.

Loan Shark reminds my of how I imagine most of the criminal underworld types in Vjorthos look (there are quite a lot of them).

It should perhaps have arms, or maybe just guns.  It would work nicely for a boss-fight.

The legs come off as a bit long and thin, which is not quite as good for a "tank".  Perhaps you could try some legs more like my brick droid.  They are chuncky, good for animation, shorter, and most of the pieces are common in black.

Perhaps I could use modified smiley faces from characters in The LEGO Movie that I posses, this would give me five different expressions plus the default smiley face.  it might look quite nice, particularly with Benny's funny face I have from his Spaceship.  Nice goofy and jester like.

I myself was not entirely sure about the epaulets.  I thought it might be a nice way to benefit the chain, although there is of course no way for me to remove the chain.

Thanks!  Yeah, the arms did cross my mind.  It's not especially noticeable, though, and I'm not even sure if there is an exact colour match available (lavender, maybe, though I don't have any arms in that colour).  I don't especially like the grey arms in this combination, though, since it looks visually a lot less interesting to me, and akes the outfit look a bit too bland and uniform.

That's the only Qui-Gon Jinn head I have, by the way.  I still remember my brother buying the Naboo Swamp set in the store.  It's survived a long time.

I dunno, I felt a standard skeleton face looked a bit bland and done-before, though I really just threw all of these together for fun.  I do have a scene planned in which I'll have to animate several minifigs wearing such hoods and capes, though.  Thank goodness the majority of it is just standing still and talking.

I really like the look of the yellow fellow.  That's a nice outfit.

I might actually make a really over-the-top action fight scene parody with Yellow Tracksuit Guy some day.  I threw him together on a whim, but I've rather grown to like him as a character.

I guess you could say that victims in Vjorthos are...

...

... shark bait.

It was more of a loose interpretation of the phrase ("tank" being the thing that the brain is contained in).  I just felt like building something punny with the brain I got in the Studios set, so I did.  I was kind of going for a surreal Dr Seuss or Tim Burton-esque look, hence the absurdly long, spindly legs and lack of arms.  If I do ever use it in an animation I'll definitely have to re-design it, maybe give it some treads/caterpillar tracks to make it more tank-like.

Re: *The Official Minifigure Critique Thread*

I have two minifigures here. The one on the left is a recreation of my minecraft skin, and the one on the left is a recreation of a Etho's (a youtuber) minecraft skin.
http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t619/Unctuously/Etho%20amp%20Rivvm%20m_zpset67oj8r.jpg
Here is a picture of my actual skin: http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t619/Unctuously/Minecraft%20Skin%20Rivvm%20m%20Knight%20pic_zpswtbotrrk.png
and Etho's actual skin: http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t619/Unctuously/Etho_zpsyyytcyfp.png
Any suggestions as to how I could improve them?

Edit:
One more minifig. How does this look for a female warrior? (Possibly a futuristic warrior)

I really think that Etho should have flesh toned pieces. It looks cool, though I don't quite know how to make Kakashi in Lego form.

I've thought about giving Etho flesh colored pieces, but I'm not sure how that would look mixed with yellow minifigures.
