Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Nice frame, Isaac.  It does have a really claustrophobic feeling, and I dig the red lighting.

I wish it were possible to say that an encounter with this gentleman would be nothing to lose your head over, but I'd be lying.

Thanks mini/smile
That's a very nice frame right there FlyingMinifig, It reminds me of a scene from Inception but I have no idea why. The only thing I might do to improve it would be making sure the black table is also completely centre frame since the table is slightly further to the left than the right. There I go talking about centre frame again!

Quite like the silhouetting in this.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Nice use of contrast, and has a very warm deserty feel.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

I like the concept, but if you're going for a true silhouette effect, you're going to need to add more contrast. Right now, it just looks like an underlit set. You have a great starting point, but the background needs to be better lit, and the subject needs to be in better focus. Otherwise, it's a great set and shot; the colors are very complimentary.

Another shot from Appetite Lost.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

I really like how realistic this shot looks. The red light coming from the left adds a nice touch to the frame.

I'm curious though: what method did you use to make the headlights light up?

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

Yeah man, this one looks really nice, like super nice, like on set lighting taken to the extreme.

Im pretty sure he is used LEDs. Also that shot looks really cool Nathan. It looks slightly bright compared to the other sots that you have posted. But really cool. Really like that on set lighting.

Hope that helps

Really cool frame Nathan! I'm a big fan of wide aspect ratios in brick films. It makes it look even professional in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

One of my goals for Appetite Lost was to try to get the viewers to forget they were looking at LEGO - even just for a second. I feel like I'm getting pretty close to that goal.

I used LifeLites, a special type of LED light product designed to work with LEGO. The entire car model is packed full of wires and lights. I'll post behind the scenes pictures later.

Having relatively little experience working with Lifelites as a physical part of the set, I'm really pleased with how this turned out.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

It looks really fancy and realistic.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

It looks really great, though it feels like there should be more furniture or something along the back wall.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

I agree with Backyardlegos, it does look really great but I might just add a small chest of drawers or something on the far right. I particularly like the detail you put into the sheets on the bed.

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

That's a really nice looking frame, MindGame; it has a very minimalistic yet polished feel that I really like.  It's fairly rare to see practical lights in Brickfilming, so it's nice to see it here (although I understand why it's rarely done, given the difficulties).

However, I feel like the light itself looks too yellow-ish for an average lamp.  I think you should use a trans-clear stud instead of what appears to be a trans-yellow one to make the light whiter, and possibly tweak the in-camera white balance, or the colour correction in post if it doesn't quite look right.  I'd agree the wall does look a bit empty, although it depends on the context (if he's staying in an empty room or cheap motel it wold make sense for there to be no other furniture).  I also really like the design of the bed, especially the way you made the sheets.

(Also, on a side note, who is the guy in your current avatar?  It looks familiar to me, but I can't quite place it.)

Re: Frame from Your Upcoming Film

I think the only area to improve the set is add some random toy or desk under/by the window, so it's not so empty

I don't know about you guys, but not everyone bedroom needs to be super full of furniture. I think there's an elegance to frame, and filling the room with more furniture would clutter the shot up.

Plus, this shot has already been animated, I believe.
