Thanks!
animationIsaac wrote:The gun (3rd photo) and the chainsaw one are great! The background really adds to them both. Also, it's quite rare that you see frames from a brickfilm that are taken from underneath the minifigure.
In that case you're in for a treat--this film is going to have a lot of low-angle shots (although most aren't as extreme as this). I'm worried I may be going slightly overboard with these...
Squid wrote:All of these are way above the usual standard, but this one strikes me especially. The blurry, unidentifiable stuff in the background really reminds me of lighting in The LEGO movie (which we all should know looks delightful).
I'm also quite fond of the fact that you've included two different light sources with two different hues to them, which really makes the image feel more interesting and detailed. That's something especially I feel like people should do more often, myself included.
But it's really annoying sometimes that I just happen to be making a film in greyscale right now and will still be making this film for most of the year. So it's going to be a while until I get to do more of that.
Also, make sure you accompany this shot with a really good gun cocking sound. I made a reasonably good one for Leprechauns in France if you want it.
BTW, is this going to be 3:2?
Believe it or not, but this is the set-up for this shot:
Only build what the camera sees, amirite?
I put one of my desk lamps behind the window, which gives it a sort of brownish light (and causes the unidentifiable stuff in the background). To add some detail I used a small portable reading light which has an extremely cool, blue tone. It's probably the most fantastically useful lighting implement that I happened to find lying around in my house and decided on a whim to use, I've used it in several other scenes and one-off shots. The blue can add a nice contrast to warmer colours, and it creates really sharp shadows as well, which is really useful in some instances (the light from my other lamps is generally too diffuse).
I do need to find a good gun cocking sound yet.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 3:2, though if you mean the aspect ratio it's not finalised (it'll be 16:9).
