Re: The Animation Challenge
bother, been to busy with paid work($50 per hour) to do some animating!

Here's my entry.
It's been a while since I participated in one of these. I think I entered a few in early 2013, then kinda stopped. Feels good to be doing this again
good job so far people. how long till deadline?
The winner is without a doubt Tenny.
It was a shame that Rockydude411 nor Greenshirt were able to get their video in on time.
Rioforce, I liked your story more than Tenny's but it was the animation was the key of the challenge. You said it yourself, the minifig should have been on its toes and not its waist/knees.
Tenny, I liked how you used a flat surface to do the push ups. I hoped for someone to find a way of keeping the hands in on place whilst the elbows move (kinda impossible). The flat surface seemed to make it easier for you to move the hands without studs getting in the way leading to a smoother animation. With observation, I noticed how the toes sank through the tiles. The way you hid that was amazing. I made a few attempts myself and my biggest issue was keeping the toes on a stable position. Pretty much everything with the animation pleased me.
Well done to the participants. Although it is too late to make an entry, I am still looking forward for attempts at doing push-up animations.
Edit: Tenny's grunts also added a lifelike feel to the minifig.
Congrats Tenny, I wish I could have joined, I had lots of ideas on how to make a lego push up feel more like real push ups.
Thanks guys. I did try animating the minifigure without the tiles (and I still have that footage) but I discovered that it was going to be impossible to animated the push-ups without the feet moving too bad. I tried the tiles and those worked and all I did was shoot about seven frames per shot and the rest was copied.
For the next theme the idea of practicing the use of a mod element inconspicuously came up but I don't think you'll like that much. So if you like it tell me an if you don't please suggest some others.
I think we got enough use of a mod element with THAC.
Plus, a Mod element isn't really an animation technique. A few pages back, Jampot posted a list of some animation challenge ideas that you could look through. Maybe walking on walls would work well?
Let me repost them.
Walking through a swamp
Time lapse flower growth
Moving shadows
Shapeshifting into an animal
Backpack/jetpack flight
Ridiculously oversized weapon
Helicopter head
Midas touch
Leprechaun magic
Giant in a minifig’s world
Scott Pilgrim-style guitar battle
Time loop
Phoenix rebirth
Pneumatic drill
Last Crusade-style crumble to dust
Mech walk
Unloading a lorry
Demon transformation
Feel free to use or discard at will
.
How about a minifigure walking on tiles? Has that been done?
Sort of. The challenge was smooth surface, so same-diff.
Well I'm thinking about it. How about walking mech?
Sounds good to me, I have a few mechs laying around. As long as it's OK with you is what matters. ![]()
Of course, if some people don't have mechs, it may be a good idea to use something different.

You could build one out of Technic parts...

or Mixel parts, or even regular bricks if you're clever about it. Maybe that should be part of the challenge, actually building the mech.
Okay the challenge is
Walking Mech
Build a mech out of technic pieces or Bionicle, and animate some walking cycles. You can do several mechs and compile in a montage if you want.
The deadline is January 31 and I will be announcing the winner on February 1st.
Would something like Ash in this video count as a mech?
