Re: Lego set You Want

Wout, I also love the classic Lego, having grown up on them.  Back then, Lego's Philosophy on their system was "Build more with less".  Things have become far more complex since then.

I actually really enjoy taking the theme-specific figures and trying to find other uses for them.

Ahh, the joys of Classic LEGO....

Me too, actually.  I love finding new unusual uses for specific bricks/figures.  Which is why the Han Solo Carbonite Bath Brick crops up a lot in my brickfilms/sets.

EDIT: Gah, I meant to say "my brickfilms/sets".  Sorry if that was confusing.

Re: Lego set You Want

The Arctic Batman suit was great for my Ice Vampire's armour.
The Beorn head would be perfect for a skinwalker (native American folklore).
I've used the Chima lions' and eagles' bodies for elves.
Iron Man's torso and legs looked great on one Moc, Grizeos, who was an alien android.

You just have to be creative about it. If I got the Rancor bigfig, I'd have so many uses for that.

Re: Lego set You Want

Exactly, Wout.

On another note, what's the general consensus on the Cloud Cuckoo Palace set? It's got such a weird mix of pieces but it's kinda' cool. I may go for it.

Re: Lego set You Want

Jampot, I wrote a preview/review for this set way before it was released, but withheld it because all the Lego movie sets were listed as confidential.  I don't have it handy because it's on my dead laptop.  But I sometimes get it to work.  I think I gave it a pretty good review, and mentioned that it looks like Cloud Cuukoo Palace is an a no holds barred kind of world where the laws of physics don't apply and anything can happen, and that stereotypically "girls'" colors are starting to appear with more frequency in regular sets.

Re: Lego set You Want

Guyyyyzzz I've been sufing ebay again (for like the billionth time) and saw these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221438317381? … EBIDX%3AIT

Now, they don't come with any minifigures but all bricks and accessories are there - are the prices good for these sets? For the Dol Gulder one I have the Necromancer and two Orcs anyway, and I think the price seems pretty good, so should I consider buying?

Bag End's the one I've really really got my eye on.

Re: Lego set You Want

Well, if you already have, or don't want/need the figures, then yes.
That would put them about .05 a part on Bag end, that has some really nice pieces, and about .03 per part for Dul Guldur, which is mostly basic grey  parts, but at that price still good.

That being said, it's about double those prices to get the figures, andboth have some amazing figures.
It's too bad you already have the Necromancer, otherwise I'd say to just buy that full set.
What about Bag End's figures? Got any of those?

As it is, three to five cents a part is pretty good, and Bag End is pretty sweet, so yes on that for sure.

Re: Lego set You Want

Okay, thanks. I'd love to get the sets themselves, even though I already have the Necromancer, but the problem is price; I haven't worked for the last few months and I have very little money as a result. mini/sad

Re: Lego set You Want

In that case, by all means spend your little remaining cash on Lego.
After all, it ranks up with food, shelter, clothing and Wi-Fi as one of the basic necessities of life. mini/tongue

I know the feeling, but sometimes you just have to pass on a good deal thanks to lack of funds.
If you really can't afford it, you just have to go without. The figures are sweet, but the parts will probably be re-used more often, so going just for those isn't a bad idea.

Re: Lego set You Want

It's more the fact that I want Bag End itself. Plus, having the bulk pieces of either set for such a bangin' price is a major bonus. Still, the full Bag End's going £10 cheaper on Amazon so I may wait and buy it there.

Also, I haven't finished college yet and am still living at home, so I don't need to worry about food, shelter etc. Yet.

I've been mailing with someone who sells Lego about these three. No boxes, but they do have instructions. €21 in total including shipping, seems quite cheap! Also, my first Space set! mini/bigsmile

Looks like it'll tie in with the new LEGO Batman videogame...in space.

Re: Lego set You Want

Bumpity-bump, I like to jump.

These are some of the sets I've been looking at lately, now that I have some money again. I was going to get some of the CUUSOO/Ideas sets but they're not very good value for money by comparison.
Ice Vulture Glider
Starblaster Showdown
Infearno Interception

Of those I think I'm most likely to get the Chima one, and maybe make another small Bricklink order. I actually really like Chima and plan to do more brickfilms. I'm not sure why a lot of people don't like it...

The Ultra Agents set is pretty unremarkable except for the flaming guy on the jetboard, which is insanely awesome.

Oh, wow.

Not officially released yet, but it's just been announced.  I just love detective and noir stuff, and I'm really happy LEGO decided to make something like this; it brings a nice bit of variety in the modular buildings series.  So many neat building techniques and bricks.  I thought I'd stop collecting modular buildings for a bit (I have quite a few, and have run out of room on my shelf) but I'm seriously considering getting this when it comes out.

And I have no idea how the decorative bit on the roof above the detective office was designed.
