Re: Official LEGO Movie

So, I've officially found the first real-live person who hates the LEGO Movie. I definitely don't agree with their statements as to what they didn't like about it (not being funny, boring, hating what they did to Batman), but that isn't really my point.

As they were explaining it to me, I kind-of got the sense that the reason they didn't like it was because they've tried very hard to suppress their inner child. That made me realize fully why I love this movie so much. It tries, and succeeds, wholeheartedly to connect with the kid in you, taking you back to when you made up ridiculous stories with your LEGO or other toys. If you go into the film without any of that connection, no matter what the joke is or how funny it should be, you'll just write the whole movie off as a stupid, annoying kids film, with nothing to offer but cheap entertainment for the babs.

Or maybe I'm just reading too far into this and should really get around to seeing this movie a second time. God, I really need to.

Miller for the wynn!

I loved this film, it felt fantastic to watch, like a feature long brickfilm, and I thought the humour was great. I didn't have too many expectations after the trailer but I was pleasantly surprised. And gauging by the ratings other people did too. There's a sequel already in the works!

Re: Official LEGO Movie

It's cool they're working on another movie, but I hope it's not a full on sequel. Another movie with the same characters would sort of hurt the feel and overall message of this film, in my opinion. I think it works best as a stand alone movie. Hopefully the second film is a completely different story with different characters, and is really only a sequel in the sense that it's another LEGO Movie.

Also what if it was stop-motion? (Like that's going to happen.)

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I'm impressed that backyard got into the film.  I'm glad that we our represented in the film by a work made by a member of this site.  This is glorious!

I originally never entered that because I didn't think my flickery animation worthy to appear in the LEGO Movie, so I never even tried.

It's a shame, really, but if they want stuff for the LEGO Movie 2, I'm going to go for it.  Flicker is dead to me.

On the subject of the sequel, I think it would be interesting if it were set in the same universe, but not upon all of the same characters.  They did actually kill one off, though, so more would be fitting.  The primary team of heroes could be changed, but the old characters could still be in the film, just not all quite as prominent.
I think it would be cool if the new team involved another previously existing popular character like Batman.  It would also be cool to have another character from a classic LEGO theme like Benny.  Johnny Thunder, the Bat-Lord, or one of the Toa could be cool things to have.
The LEGO Universe is a vast place.  There is no end to the possibilities for adventure.  Of course, it could be a horrible thing, but it could be brilliant.  I'm quite keen to find out.

News people seem to like making things sound controversial when they're really not just to make things seem interesting.  They are ridiculous in a horrible way.

If it's an anti-business movie it couldn't possibly be made by a big business, but it is.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I loved when

Spoiler (click to read)

Wyldstyle was talking about the realms and listed off those and then the "few others we won't mention" and it showed Bionicle (EXCUSE ME?!) and Fabuland, if I remember correctly.  I was expecting them to show Galidor but didn't see it...that disappointed me but ah well.
I really wish they had Knights' Kingdom make a quick appearance somewhere but didn't notice one, maybe the second one...*hinthint*
Also, I'm fairly sure I saw two minifigures twerking in Cloud Cuukoo Land but maybe I was hallucinating.    mini/eek

I also really want to see Bionicle have some sort of a role, or at least an appearance, in the second one.  Seeing Bionicle animation that's mostly realistic in a movie like that would be the best thing ever.

Apparently the Super Secret Police Dropship set coming out in the second wave has an UPDATED Johnny Thunder, which I am totally all for getting, he's like my favorite minifig ever and that's so cool!

Re: Official LEGO Movie

My aunt went to the theater to see The Monuments Men, and she told me the was a line into the lobby with 10-year-old kids. I wanted to ask to ask them if one of them had a spare ticket. I might have to just end up watching this on DVD when it comes out. *cries*

Re: Official LEGO Movie

Great film, enjoyed every second of it. Had great humor, story, and characters; and really, really, REALLY made me want to animate.

It almost made me cry to see how good everything looked and how impossible it is to get that look in no budget movies like mine, but it is something great to aspire to.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

The thing with a sequel: I hope they will do the route that Toy Story has taken which is make short stories in that universe. I'd love to see some Lego Movie shorts and maybe even a half-hour special or something. I'm just afraid that a sequel will potentially drag it on way too far.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

There have been plenty of examples of good kids movie sequels - Despicable Me 2, Shrek 2 (which is amazing), Toy Story 3 (which is a masterpiece) - but that doesn't stop me worrying that it could all go wrong.

That said, I hope the LEGO Movie's world is continued somehow. I'd love it if 2015 brought a new roster of sets based on the film, or spinning-off from the film: maybe a Cloud Cuckoo Land expansion, more Wild West stuff, some Bricksburg sets...I think that'd be awesome.

You know what else is awesome? EVERYTHING!!!

Re: Official LEGO Movie

I here is my review of the film and my thoughts on the sequel: http://pushoverproductions.weebly.com/b … views.html

I wouldn't be surprised if they end the next film with Emmitt saying "Go to LEGO.com to learn more", and then superimpose the Target and Walmart logos on the screen.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: Official LEGO Movie

The first of the "Emmet Awards" contests has started. 'Direct your own trailer' involves assembling clips from the movie into your own trailer (and it's strictly only for kids), so it's not an original brickfilming contest.

ReBrick are hosting a building contest where you rearrange the pieces from an existing set into a new build, and everyone is welcome to enter that one. No animation contests though!
