Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Today, I entered the Matt Damon Universe and watched
We Bought a Zoo

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbqiZ-RdajQ/TrHc9Pu-k5I/AAAAAAAAACs/2_BcML378HE/s1600/We%2BBought%2BA%2BZoo%2BPoster.jpg

I had been meaning to watch this film for a while now after reading such high praise of the film from topitmunkeydog.  It also has Matt Damon in it, which is amusing because my family makes a lot of inside jokes about Matt Damon basically everyday.
No, guys, seriously.
Not a day goes by where we are not making Matt Damon jokes.

YEs! We just randomly decided to go see this, and it was one of the best movies I had ever seen! Everybody who hasn't seen it, get off your computer and go to the nearest movie theater RIGHT NOW and watch it. It is a true work of art. The plotline is so absurd yet so serious yet so lighthearted at the same time, and the film is so cinematographiclly perfect that if you were to take a random shot from the film, print it out, frame it, and hang it on a wall it would still look epic. (except of course for the creepy close-ups of people's heads)
Well, anyway, tis a beautiful movie. I recently discovered the band Sigur Ros, and I decided to go see this because the main singer composed the score to this. The music is beautiful too, and.. just go watch it please, I'm tired of ranting.

10/10

It actually is pretty good.  The Scotsman is a bit stereotypical, and I guess some bits could be better.  But generally it's a pretty cool movie.

It's especially fun with the Matt Damon jokes.

The Oscars are extremely corrupt in my opinion. How did Transformers even get nominated at all when We Bought a Zoo, an obvious masterpiece in more ways than one, was not even mentioned?

topitmunkeydog wrote:

I was angry that We Bought a Zoo was not nominated for anything and Jonsi's soundtrack wasn't mentioned either, but then I realized that it doesn't really matter in the long run.

I still think We Bought a Zoo should have been nominated for like every single category. Am I a hipster?

If you are a hipster.  I am a hipster, too.

Though, it was a little bit awkward that the calender was from a G year when 2010 is really a C year.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Personal reaction: "You bought a zoo. OK. Have fun seeking Nirvana, I'm gonna go eat a soft taco."

Of course, that's just my reaction. I'm not normally one for a flick centered around a whiny teen finding peace through unorthodox methods, but hey that's just me.

Although, I found Matt Damon to be quite enjoyable in that film. Overall, story was kinda poor but Matt Damon helps it a little.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

I think I would consider myself a hipster, when it comes to films, music, and some other stuff. Like I don't really like films and music that most people like...if you can consider that a "hipster".

The calendar part was funny; I actually pointed that out to the guy who was sitting next to me at the cinema. mini/lol Sometimes I like to pay attention to all of the continuity fails.

But, I didn't like the boy character...I didn't really like him. But, I did like its heartfelt moments, despite its poor cast, IMO.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Duck soup

This is one of my new favorite movies. The subtle humor is just great, the physical comedy is perfectly executed, the scenarios are classic, and the acting is just genius. I also loved the references and parodies of historical events (Except maybe the Paul Revere one). Overall this movie was amazing, the Marx brothers are like the not-as-well-know-yet-almost-better version of the three stooges.

10/10 (Maybe 9/10, subtracting 1 point for the joke about climbing into bed with a horse.... Egh mini/what .)

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

I am sorry but I actually have no idea what this means heheh mini/smile

Since watching We Bought A Zoo multiple times I have grown to like it less. Mostly because the story is too much Matt Damon. Like I know the movie is mostly about him but there was too much. And also I didn't like Scarlett Johansen's character; especially the kissing scene at the end seems like it was just put in to please the adults in the theater who were just looking for a stereotypical love story. The rest of the characters were great but not so much the 2 leads.
Still love this song though omg

ok now to the film I actually watched

Star Trek: the search for Spock
Well I had seen the wrath of Khan and the whale movie (which is my favorite) but I hadn't seen this one so that was good to clear up some of those confusions I had. But things seemed to work out a bit too perfectly, if you know what I mean, and for that I found the main plot a little unrealistic. I liked the Klingon debacle a lot, it reminded me of the scenes from the old TV show.

It depends what you'd define as "hipster".  I myself often enjoy unusual or less popular things or styles.  For instance, I wear old-fashioned style round glasses (in fact, my current pair is actually from the 1930s/40s), and some people have commented that they look hipster.  (This incidentally means that loads of people call me "Harry Potter" which is actually pretty ironic since I've never even read the books or watched the films--save for Order of the Phoenix, which I once watched on a plane trip and found pretty boring, but I digress...).  I wear some unusual clothes too, like a military greatcoat, and a lime-green scarf.  Also, I don't like most modern music, and often (though not always) tend to dislike things that are excessively popular (e.g. I hate The Hunger Games).

Still, I don't consider myself hipster per se as I don't like these things to be ironically cool or fit in (ironically), but just because I like/dislike them in themselves.  And I dislike many hipster trends too--skinny jeans look just ridiculous in my opinion.

"I could dance with you till the cows come home. On second thoughts, I'd rather dance with the cows till you came home." That film has so many great quotes.

The World's End

Far from great, but I loved it. Mostly because it made me feel nostalgic of times I've never had. Makes me want to go on a pub-crawl...

How ironic it is that a movement that started to counter popular culture has now become part of it. Just check the #hipster tag on any website and you will see what I mean.

But yeah I just watched The Book Thief and well i had not read it since the 6th grade so I can't say how close it was to the novel but yeah this film was pretty neat. It was not unique enough to be a favorite but it was still pretty super. I realized that all the parts of the film that I didn't like were the same parts of the book that I didn't like. For exacmple, the inconsistancy of the speaking German and the English and that bothered me. I liked Markus Zusak's other book I Am The Messenger way better and I hope a movie of that comes our way sooner or l8er.

I'll see kids my age take those 3D glasses that you get at cinemas, and they'll poke the lenses out of them. They'll wear them around town and consider themselves "hipsters". I doubt that wearing "lensless" 3D glasses and making duck-faces in photographs can be considered being a hipster. Some of my true hipster friends enjoy reading Homestuck and listening to indie rock music that no one's ever heard of. That sounds to me like what a real hipster would do, I guess...

Anyways... mini/blankexpression

Here Comes the Boom (2012)

My grandparents have HBO...sue me.

I originally watched this, last year--on opening day, at the cinema--and I remember liking it. I still like it--it's surprisingly good, considering it's from the director of Zookeeper. mini/lol Henry Winkler's hilarious. His books? Not so much, but as an actor, yes.

7.6/10

Also, I don't know if I would consider this a "film" per se, but...

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973)

Still a classic, and it will always be a classic. At home, I have a "little kiddie storybook" version that can be used to accompany the TV special. It's surprisingly accurate to the TV special, but I forgot to bring it along to my grandparents' house. Still though, I always enjoy watching those Peanuts holiday specials on television.

Lenses still intact, but I immediately thought of this character when you mentioned that.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

'Hipster' is a Media Construct. Its one of those words thats been used so much it has no meaning.

People bond best when they find a common interest, but at the end of the day its impossible to pigeon-hole humanity. Personally, I just file everyone under three categories: those I like, those I don't like, and those I haven't met.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Once again, I don't know if this would count as a film. But anyways,

Dr Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

Yes, the holiday cartoon, not that horrible Ron Howard "Grinch 2000" version.

Still a classic; we watched it in Choir class, on account of we sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" at a holiday concert last night. So, it seemed appropriate. Boris Karloff is an awesome narrator for this. I think Dr. Seuss is awesome, too; I used to read almost everything he wrote when I was a kid. I mean, who here didn't grow up on Seuss?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I don't consider the Grinch a movie.  But it is awesome!  I love Boris Karloff's book.  Dr. Suess is a genius, and is lesser known for 1) Writing the rhyming episodes of the Warner Bros' cartoon for soldiers, "Private SNAFU", and 2) drawing 400 political cartoons in the 1930s and 1940s.  Among other things, he was a critic of FDR's apathy regarding the plight of the Jews in Germany.  We watch the Grinch every Christmas, several times.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Oh i love the retro seuss film

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
I love this movie so but I do wish they had checked over their script a few more times before sending it in to be made into a million dollar film. That would have made it a masterpiece but as it is there are some glaringly silly mistakes in the screenwriting.

La Fée
oh glogg why did I watch this it was so horribly messed up don't watch it it's great

Scrooged (1988)

This is my kind of movie: Interesting camera angles and direction, a hilarious actor, pretty good writing.... I love this.

9/10

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I watched Scrooged like to days ago. This movie was very funny, I loved it, it was hilarious. I also rate this a 9/10.

The Cat in the Hat (2003)

Okay actors, bad movie, some parts I found funny from time to time, but not much.

3/10

Dr Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

Okay, My Mom found the movie disk today, so I watched it, I forgot how great this film is, I love the animation, and the music.

9/10

Dr Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (2000)

Better then Cat in the Hat (2003), but still not as good as the cartoon or the book, I love Jim Carrey, but this movie is just, eh.

4.5/10

Now You See Me
I loved the actors in this movie. This movie is a great movie, I love the writing and the acting, The ending was a bit, confusing,

Spoiler (click to read)

It didn't really make sense that Mark Ruffalo was the guy in the hoodie

but, whatever.
