I really liked this movie, it had amazing actors, and good writing. I loved the cast, I never knew Joey King could act so dramatically. It was a really good movie with good effects.

Ha, True, she isn't very good. When she was in The Haunting Hour, it was terrible. There were many parts in this film where acting wasn't very good, but, I think she was better in this movie, then she was in any other.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Music Man (2003)

The made-for-TV movie with Kristin Chenoweth? Yeah, that's the one.

Boy, this thing is just sprinkled with subliminal messages and adult bits. But, the songs are great.

7.8/10

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Um...where do I begin?

First of all, let me say I haven't the foggiest idea what I just watched. But, whatever it was, it was phenomenal, spectacular, brilliant, wonderful...and Kubrick's best, most supreme film.

The music and the sound design, whoa gosh! It's all just so beautiful, just so amazingly compelling. It's a thrill ride. Those first 10 minutes were the best I've ever seen in a film. But, I have no clue as to what

Spoiler (click to read)

the ape-guy smashing the skeleton

had to do with anything.

Around that 2-hour mark, things got real trippy. mini/tongue

But, it is safe to say that this is the best sci-fi movie ever. I can't believe I've never watched it before. It's just...wonderful. It really is a remarkable, flawless film.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

the problem with the movie of the 2001 is that it doesn't connect ideas as well as in the book (or even the sequel!) thus, people who have watched the movie without reading the book usually express that kind of what the heck happened so I'd definitely recommend reading the book too. Also read the sequel 2010 but don't read the other two sequels because they're stupid and don't watch the 2010 movie unless you feel like it

High School Musical 2
because I actually got to watch this one from the beginning, I enjoyed it more than the first one. I think I had seen parts of it before, like the baseball dance. I think overall the songs were worse than in the last film but the rest of the film was better.

Intouchables
we watched this in french class and because it started so seriously i expected it to be a drama or something but then they made all these silly jokes and i was like yeeeeeaaaaah no tears for today ha HA

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Thor: The Dark World

Loki!!!!!!!!!

No, but seriously, it was good. Like Marvel does these days in their movies. Can't wait for Captain America: Winter Soldier; the cap is my favourite avenger.

Doesn't it have something to do with the monolith giving the ape knowledge to kill and evolve into a human - or something like that...?

I'm not entirely sure. It's been a little under a year since I watched it.

The monolith gave the apes knowledge how to kill and use tools.

When the movie was made, the "killer ape" theory, which is what is depicted was thought to be how we evolved from apes to humans. now I think the viepoint is something different. We watched part of 2001 for one of my science classes because of this, but that was about 4 or 5 years ago now so I don't really remember it that well.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

So...I watched "White House Down" last night, and "Olympus Has Fallen."

*sigh* It's sad to see that this is what Hollywood puts out anymore.

If I were to choose between the two movies I'd choose Olympus has fallen, with a solid 2/5. White House Down with a nice big fat 1/5.

Both movies with a nice cast, but they were in the wrong movie. Olympus has fallen had a better story over White House Down but was very illogical. White House Down was just a "Lets do whatever" kind of movie. When you take into account the VFX and CGI I would consider both of these movies B-movies.

If you are bored and have nothing better to do, watch these two movies in a constructive way to get a better idea of what NOT to do when you make a film.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Monsters University

I liked it a little more than I thought I would, but part of me is still questioning why this even needed to be made.

I think the directors made a bet on who could make a better film about the White House getting blowded up and attacked.

It needed to be made because the moral of Monsters University is so smart and blows everything that happened in Monsters Inc. out of the water and adds so many layers to Mike's character. It's one of the best prequels ever made because it turns it on its head. The problem with prequels is that we already know what's going to happen so the movie needs to be more character driven and show how he got there. The scene at the lake is one of the best scenes Pixar has ever put out and is one of the reasons why I believe it's better than it's predecessor.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

That's a great point, and I feel it helps justify it to an extent.

Still that small part of me asking why it even needed to be made doesn't feel entirely satisfied. I think its just that I don't want to see anymore sequels or prequels from The Lamp, even if they are told rather well.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

In my opinion, the best Harry Potter film, and also one of my favourite films of all.
Almost everything in this film is perfect.  And even after watching it around about a dozen times, I still notice these great little details that I didn't notice before.

I love how there's that creepy kid who's always saying really morbid things about the grim and Sirius, and the soundtrack is just marvelous, and the way they subtly hint the importance of seemingly insignificant things, and all of these other brilliantly clever things.  It's just so good.

S.W.A.T. (2003)

Pfft.

I say, "Welcome to product placement heaven, my friends." Not much of a film, really. It's more of an extended episode of some cop show. If you're looking for a "thrill ride", and you see this film on the shelf at a movie house, do yourself a favour and don't rent it.

2.8/10

I used to watch the TV show, and had a 500 pc S.W.A.T. puzzle as a kid.

For how high it's regarded in the film world and it's placement on the AFI list, I expected a lot more out of that film. It was good and I enjoyed it, but it didn't quite meet expectations in my eyes. I found the story a bit too long and the characters a bit too flat and wooden. Don't get me wrong, it's a good film, just don't expect it to blow your mind.

That's my take, at least.
