Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I quite like the third picture, as it's framed nicely on both sides and has a claustrophobic and trapped feeling, as well as having an interesting perspective with a vanishing point.  Of course, it depends on what sort of an effect you're going for.

Retribution (3rd place in BRAWL 2015)

AquaMorph    I dunno women are expensive

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I definitely like the first and third the most, I've never seen anything like that in a brickfilm before. mini/smile

Position #2

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

MightyWanderer, it looks like we both chose the same scene for Empire Strikes Back: Uncut. Oh, well. Good luck! Also, it took me a while to realize this, but you can actually download the scene you're recreating. You probably already knew that, though.

Well, now. Best of luck to your video, then! mini/wink

The engine room for a large Steampunk vehicle.

And a random hallway in said vehicle.

And for a update on the last set, I animated on it. (It was tough!) But the rest of the animation for that short was junk-y, so I didn't finish it, and it will not be released. Sorry.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I know that this is going to be all kinds of ironic after my last comment, but...

That's way too wide and open for an engine room. The aesthetics are solid, but engine rooms are typically cramped and cluttered. Obviously, you have the ease of animation to think about, but if you at least add some more props or textures  or what have you, you'll be able to sell the look better.

Oh, and [unwarranted opinion alert] the epaulette doesn't really work with the open collar/plunging neckline.[/alert] Just a thought.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I agree that the engine room should be more cluttered; and you should post just the bit of animation you did on the other set, I want to see it. mini/smile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Backyard, don't worry, I've got some great shots in the hallway. Some will make it into my Animation Challenge entry, and I'm saving most of them for a short steam-punk film that will hopefully be released soon.

Here's Engine Room 2.0. (Also know as prop-bump prone set #3)
And trust me, it looks simply marvelous when all the machinery is moving. mini/yes

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That looks much better (imo).  I really hope you have at least some blue-tac in those crates full of tools...that will be REALLY hard not to bump mini/eek

Might this interior to the "large Steampunk vehicle" be the one you mentioned in chat?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Looks good. I'd be inclined to suggest moving the walls in closer and removing a few props perhaps though.

THAC XIV entry here: (Never) Meant To Be

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Been waiting for more feedback, but might as well post now. (1,111th post!)

@Jonn, I don't have any Blue-tac, some barely-sticky clay, yes. But Blue-tac, no. After taking that pic I rearranged the weapons a bit to I could stick them into the holes in the bottom of the boxes. They're fairly secure now.

@Sean, I tried moving the walls in, but it'll make animating a bit more difficult, so now they're back to where they were.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Due to a lack of bricks and overall poor sense of design my sets tend to be pretty lackluster.  So I came to you guys.

This is one of five(?) sets to be featured in my next film.  It's supposed to be a backyard, but I don't think I quit nailed the feel of a suburb home.

I didn't get a good shot of the entire house from the front, I might add that later.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

It looks decent enough for the most part.
I feel like it needs some flowers, though, if you have any.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I recently made an improved version of an old creation I really loved.

I call it The Backwards Basher.

Was the old version of this seen through a window in how not to rob a bank?

Indeed!

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Really cute design. I really like it, except for the roof. It just looks like it's going to fall over any minute, and that bothers me. Even if it is sturdy and stuff it doesn't fit as well with the design as it could have. But it's not that bad and overall the design is really nice! mini/cat

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I like the ridiculousness of the backwards design, it really fits your style. mini/smile
