Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Those vampire sets are so mint!

Here's a radio station set that I'm going to use in "Holding Our Own, Episode 2":

And here's Melissa's high school, which is an exterior set, but has a furnished interior so that it can be enjoyed like a classic Legoland set:

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Here are a couple photos of a set I'm pretty much done building:

How'd I do?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Any comments?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

The floor should be black or dark-grey, but other than that it's good.
The lighting on the other hand is fine for showing the set, but too flat for the final film. I suggest upping the contrast a bit, lowering the brightness, and trying to get the same "Mostly-shadowed" look as the movie frames.

And what's your secret with the Lifelites? I can't get mine that bright.

(Just a guess, but probably the correct answer)

If you want a light to look brighter on camera, simply make the rest of the lighting appear more dim, when modify your camera's settings to absorb more light.  Your on set lights will look very bright in contrast.

I do stuff like this to make sure that Batty's face is a lot brighter than it should be in I Am The Night.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Well, that's partially the correct answer. Along with that, I have seven of the lights under the table, and one up above, which makes it glow nice and bright.

About the floor, I'd use a darker color, but I don't have a baseplate in grey/black nor enough plates to lay out as a floor.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Ooh, is this for the Star Wars Uncut project? It looks amazing! mini/bigsmile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Nice design, though I agree that the floor colour is a bit off.  The pics are a bit blurry, but I really like the lighting, especially around that round thing in the foreground.  Luke's body doesn't quite look right, though, it would be better having a tan rather than sand green body.  Also, though I like your use of the radar dish, I'd suggest using some sloping bricks or arches to made a rounded opening in the wall for it instead of just plonking it in a square hole; it'd look much better.  The walls look a bit blank, too; I'd add more pipes, tubing, greebles, etc., to give it that "Star Wars" feel. mini/wink

Thanks for your feedback. I've got one other torso that might work for Luke, you can see it here if you'd like.

I'll also try to make a rounded opening for the gate, thanks for pointing that out.

And topit, yes it is for SWU. mini/smile

It's supposed to be a stone wall, like Gandalf is at the bottom of a precipice or something

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

What are the yellow, brown, and green supposed to be?

Another thing is that everything is too level, try to add inverts and slopes more, they will give it a more realistic feel.
And the base plate should have some rocks, also try to avoid round single stud bricks and non-normal bricks, unless they fit the location setting.

Keep up the work. mini/wink

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I put in the brown and green and fan mainly because I ran out of grey bricks, and also because on some cliffs there is moss growing some places. Thanks for your input.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

@Might Wanderer, Wow! I am impressed, really like what you did with your lifelites too.

@tenny1028, Not bad, but the colorful bricks are a bit distracting.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Yeah, I might replace them with black or white, since I don't have any more grey.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Well, here's a set that I built, and now, I can't decide which way to film it.
The reason? It can be flipped upside-down. And just so you know, the lighting isn't near final.
I'm thinking position #1, but I'm also think that it's going to be a pain to animate in. mini/tongue

Position #1: (Path going to the right.)

And here's the opening at the other end:

Position #2: (Path going to the left.)

I like the second and third one a bit more; the first "straight on" angle kinda looks bland. But the other three seem more "dramatic". Those are some nice shots...

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Are you animating a minifigure running through that?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Ow.
That's going to be hard.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

All these comments, and still nobody has an answer. mini/tongue

I wrote:

I'll probably going with position #2, with an angle very similar to the third picture.
And I've got big, clumsy fingers, so chances are no one will be running through it. mini/lol

Sorry; I didn't want my decision to influence yours mini/tongue

But if you insisted, I liked number two anyway...
