Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I'm thinking that what I'm going to do is get some big black carboard or sheets of black for the walls and ceiling, and then build the sewer pipes and stuff around that. I haven't even begun to think about lighting yet - I want to get the actual building done first. One step at a time. My main issue is the sewer water. I don't know whether to make it physically or do it digitally.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Usually, physical is better, unless you're really good with that sort of thing.

I'd probably try to find something like green plastic wrap (if that exists), then put some random dark bricks scattered over it as thought they're floating on it.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That might be a good idea. I'll probably do it digitally though. The water wil only be seen a few times, and I can probably whip up something to use for it, either in VisionLab or from stock footage (there are plenty of rivers nearby that I could film and make to look skanky).

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

BUMP!
Wow, there hasn't been any activity in here for a while. I guess I'll change that with this beautiful Batcave set.
The Bat-symbol took a while to build, but other than that nasty shadow at the top, it looks pretty good to me.
What do you guys think? (And no, that's not the entire thing, it's a going to be total of two or three similar sets with the official Batcave buildings thrown in a corner.)

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Nice! The only problem I see is the different colors/types of pieces for the path leading up to the doors. It doesn't look right. And the tan baseplate(s) doesn't really work for the floor unless you throw in more tan pieces around the cave, or have the walkway tan.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Yeah I think having the walkway be one color would be a good idea, to show that Bruce Wayne put the walkway there, instead of it being there already. Also, the Batcave would be the ideal place for LifeLites, in my opinion. It could really add a lot, as well as helping to eliminate the shadow in the bat symbol. (Personally, I'd love to see them on the sides of the walkway, as well as at certain points in the doorway/around the bat symbol) I mainly bring up LifeLites because I haven't seen them in many (any) brickfilms, and I think that brickfilms would be the ideal place for them. Other than the walkway and the aforementioned tan, it looks good though mini/smile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Pretty good.

The piece choice on the rock wall seems kinda random. I think it would look better if you used just slope bricks.
The two SLURPs on the left and the LURP on the far right bug me a bit.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I love the bat. That's nice. Really nice.

It looks a bit jumbled other places, though. I'd suggest ditching the old grey pieces.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I think you can do a better Bat-emblem, to be honest. While what you have there is suggestive, it's pretty visually vague - especially considering the extensive history available to you.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Looks cool, the only thing I would do is decrease the saturation a little more and maybe add a little tint of blue.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

So let me get this straight, ya'll don't like the random wall, the tan baseplate, the lighting or the multi-colored path. Think I should throw out the old gray parts, the SLURPs, BURPS and the LURP. And revise the Bat-symbol drastically while adding Lifelites. But other than that it's great, right? mini/lol

The colors can easily be changed to a light Bley floor and black path if that would be better. (I want the path to be a different color.) Since they look so utterly sweet, I am now looking into getting some Lifelites for my sets. (Thanks Kcirbfilms.)
As to the wall, what ANP thought were old gray parts are really Mega Bloks pieces and shall be quickly thrown out. mini/devil The SLURPs can be taken out, but I want to keep the LURP in for now since I'm not to keen about re-making the entire set. I will try to disguise it more if that will suffice. And Jargon, I really like the Bat-symbol as it is, and since others like it, it probably won't be changed.

The lighting scheme that I'm dreaming up would involve Lifelites lighting up some trans-blue elements, so that should make the lighting much better. And if I do indeed get some, then most of the set will be re-done to allow their usage. (Around the Bat-symbol, and as lamps along the pathway.) Thanks for all the comments so far!

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

By the way let me know how your experience with LifeLites goes, I have no need for them in my current set but am planning on using them in sets in the near future, and I'd be interested in knowing how you enjoyed working with them mini/smile

Set for an upcoming project. I did the best I could do with what I had. Is there any way you think I might improve it?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

no offense but what are you trying to make like a train station, house, large gate. i think it would help to know

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Well, that's the best critique I could recieve. You not understanding that it's the middle of a bridge makes me doubt of my building skills. Thank you. I'll see how I can make it clearer if I can.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I understood it was a bridge quite easily. Train stations are flat, not arched.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Here's Batcave 1.2! I still want to fix the top lights, but what do ya'll think about the rest?
Right now there are three lights for each side, so I'll probably add a light in each "Ear" and see how that looks.
And Kcirbfilms, I'll be making a video review of the Lifelites soon and I'll PM you when it's uploaded. mini/wink

And here's one with just the Lifelites on.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

The green lights look rather out of place with the predominantly blue and yellow color scheme. You might want to decrease the amount of light overall, as the LifeLites don't really look like they're adding anything to the lighting of the cave beyond a few bursts of color. The lighting would fit well if you're trying to suggest a fluorescent lighting scheme, but the two don't mesh really well with each other.
