Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

Are we going to be doing another community project? I would like it if we did!

I have an idea... how about we have an open project: each letter of the alphabet represents the insignia of a superhero. You can name that superhero anything you want that starts with your corresponding letter. Everyone makes a short 15-20 second clip displaying their superhero... yeah, that's all I've got so far. It would be open to many people, as there are 26 letters to choose from. Also, there wouldn't be a need for consistency because of the different scenario and hero. What do you guys think?

Possibly. Or if we could, do something like "The Brickfilm ABCs". Think of something that begins with the letter A, B, C, D, E, so on, that has to do with brickfilming. If it's not too much work, Google should provide some answers... mini/bigsmile

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

I had an idea similar to one that was about a sock is passed around to various people as a Christmas gift. Mine idea would follow some money (either a coin or a bill) and the audience would see how it affected different people's lives. Just  my 2 cents (pun was totally intended).

I like the idea, but how about more of an Avengers style film, where all the superheros are together for a full film? It would comprise of our own original "super"heroes (e.g. Munchy, Cashman, Saltman, etc.) but they would be together in a film. Sort of like a parody of The Avengers in Lego. That's my idea.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

Yes, and it could be released on the same day as The Avengers .
Which reminds me: i've got to make my own superhero. Teaman (don't even THINK about it or else I will hunt you down and force you to make a new superhero instead of using other people's superheroes).

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

If we were to make a film like that, it'd be impossible to release it on the day The Avengers come out, because that's May 21st or something like that.

TheCorruptedDonut's idea is more plausible as an idea that would work, Juggernaut's idea of a linked to together film would be hard to keep together. Completely separate clips always work better for community projects, I like the alphabet idea, whether it be about superheros or something else. We shouldn't do anything about brickfilming because it would be to much like the last one, but I'm behind the alphabet idea.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

We should do something like this but make it intentionally tongue-in-cheek

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

That would be doable, if someone is willing to write it, and people will follow a script. I'm willing to organize a project, but not until after summer.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

But the whole joke is that the script is not even very cohesive. It could be like, "Believe in yourself!!" and then "Mayonnaise!" or something silly as such.
I mean, we would want to determine what people are going to say beforehand so they aren't all condiments.
Actually, idk if that's even funny.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

Or it could be a speech about condiments. mini/tongue Your right though, it could be a relatively non-cohesive video, although I think the alphabet idea is still my favorite. I don't think the speech would be as entertaining as the video you mentioned, that was entertaining because it was classic speeches, a community project wouldn't be.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

A rather large bump.

So, I was fiddling around the internet when I stumbled on a website called "gives me hope." It's basically a series of user-submitted vignettes of little things that people do for no particular reason besides being nice and helping people out. So, I was like, this could totally be a brickfilm. Everybody chooses a touching story and brickfilms it into a short less than twenty seconds, and then someone edits it together with some inspirational music.(more: link 1, link 2) I feel if we did this properly it would be very heartwarming and touching.
Of course we would have to pick stories that function without a backstory in order to be told in a matter of a few seconds without being unclear, or adapt existing stories.
here are a few examples:

http://www.givesmehope.com/view/Amazing+friends/57124
In addition to this, there could be some scenes of people hugging (do I smell an animation challenge or what) or giving each other flowers and just generally nice stuff.

IDK. A LEGO TRIBUTE TO HUMAN COMPASSION AND KINDNESS. Anyone think this is a good idea?

Speaking of community projects, I wonder what happened to Socks?

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

I have an idea.

In 2005, the YouTube website was launched by three men: Jawed Karim, Chad Hurley, and Steve Chen. It was a peaceful place, designed for the great pleasure of watching videos that would tickle our fancy. Over seven years later, YouTube has imploded into a booming, incredibly popular video-sharing site with billions of members (hundreds registering each day).

But, YouTube also shed a dark side, where spammers and advertisers run loose, posting blasphemous garbage on somewhat innocent videos. YouTube has been extremely wishy-washy about their layouts (the Subscribe button used to be on the upper-right corner), which has frustrated many members. Additional video-sharing sites such as Vimeo, etc. were created to guide victims to a place that wouldn't snowball out of control so easily. YouTube is falling apart more and more each day with helpless members being swallowed up because of their inactivity and videos promoting drugs, sex, and many more evils of mankind.

It is as if the entire Internet will soon crumble like the ancient city of Pompeii.

Some are wondering where are the three brave and creative men, who built what was once a marvelous haven, now and what are their plans to save the future and reputation of YouTube. But, some are wondering this,

"Ask not what the Tube can do for You, but what You can do for the Tube."

It is up to those members (the brickfilmers) to save YouTube once and for all. mini/smile

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What we do is we create a 15-minute film, starring our sig-figs, where we give "speeches" about how those who grew up on the site are probably feeling, how we feel, and what we can do to help. Sort of like those Above the Influence videos on the Internet.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

This seems a tad weird and chaotic. We aren't the only ones who can turn youtube around. The video makers themselves sometime start the fights.... :c

Sex is evil? mini/confused

The only thing that has changed is the format of videos and design of the actual website. Stop whining about stuff you can simply avoid.

YouTube isn't going anywhere. Whatever changes that happen will happen gradually, not instantly due to some animated lego videos. Plus, the majority of people would just think that you're some kid with overprotective parents.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

So... Any other supporters for my idea? I don't wanna start production until ive got a general idea of how many potential participants and the OK of an honorable elder.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

Topit, your idea is fine, but I much prefer the "Series of short morals" idea purposed by ANP. (On page #1)
That being said, with all my other projects going on right now I would only be able to contribute a little bit.

It would be a good idea to do this after BIM:2012. Then you'll have that out of the way, and with BRAWL only taking away a week, and THAC only being the one day, people will not have other deadlines to meet and would be more open to contributing to a community project.

And to tell the truth, it doesn't look like there's much interest at the moment for a community project.

Re: The Community Project Discussion Thread

Oh yeah, I forgot completely about that contest.
Well, maybe the idea will surface again once it's over. Thanks for the feedback!
