Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

Okay, so I tried it.

I found that it's not that different from other animated shows.  The episode I watched had humorous story, with good jokes.  Unlike most of the shows on Cartoon Network, it doesn't have a bit of wierdness that's supposed to be funny.  I don't like that stuff, and it's rare to find a show that doesn't use it.  The only thing I don't like about it is the theme song.  It seems I don't like music that is too light (which the theme song is) or too heavy (ex: rock).  Overall, a good show.  I like it.

So, I guess that makes me a brony then.

Wait until you get to season 2.

WELCOME TO THE HERD! mini/bigsmile

Personally, I don't like the theme song much, though it's starting to grow on me.
On the other hoof, most of the rest of the songs are spectacular.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

The theme song actually starts to get a little bit tolerable and heartwarming once you've watched the show enough. Though I still can't bear the embarrassment if someone walks into my room when the theme song is playing...

I think I get what you're implying.

I haven't seen a show that uses only that kind of humor, though.  Usually, it's a mix of that and stuff I find funny.
For example, I was watching an episode of The Amazing World of Gumball today, and I found some of the jokes funny, some of them not.  It was funnier than most of the episodes I watched before.

Originally, I couldn't even watch the theme song. Now, I'm pretty okay with it. Then I watched the German version.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

When I first "encountered" the theme song, I paused the video and waited for it to upload, so I could skip that part.
I started to feel more tolerant about it, now I almost like it.

I even sing it... sometimes... very lowly... and with an eye on the door... and ready to switch tabs.

A friend of mine is doing a serious research project about Bronies for school.  If you have a minute and would like to help out, here's the survey for it. It's a really short survey.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

Now that I've thought about it, I get it now.  It's like other animated TV shows for the most part, but it still has a unique feel to it.  It's a good-quality show, which is the primary reason why so many people like it.  The secondary reason is a phsycological one; it breaks people from the constraints put on them by society (i.e. what a male is supposed to like), which some of us subconciously want to be freed from.  We brickfilmers and other Lego fans already break that constraint by still having toys.  But we do different things with them than what a little kid would do, so not many people object to it.  With a TV show, you can only do one thing with it: like it or not.  As with all TV shows, a person needs to watch the show to understand it and tell if they like it or not.  You can't develop an opinion on it just by hearing what other people say about it.  The person might not be told some stuff, so someone needs to watch it themselves.  Opinions are person-specific, so they need to be developed from personal experience.  That's why nonbronies don't get the show completly.  The saying "You never know until you try" fit this perfectly.

I took that personality test and got Fluttershy.  I guess that's because of my social not-go-out-and-get-'em-ness.  Second was Twilight Sparkle (because of my logicalness), and third was Pinke Pie (because of my like of humor).

I realized that my Bricks characters are coincidentally similar to some of the ponies;

Furst is like Twilight Sparkle (both serve as what I like to call the "weight"; a character that is serious amid the craziness)
Jed is like Pinkie Pie (both are funny and kind of crazy)
Klutz is like Fluttershy (both aren't talkative)
Score... I got nuthin'.

EDIT: Score is most like Rainbow Dash (both have a love of athletics and the need to be "cool")

Funny how the three ponies I'm the most similar to are similar to my characters.

Well said.

Though, I think Klutz is more like Derpy Hooves.

Yeah, I guess so.  You know more about this stuff than I do.  You've been a brony for ten months, I've been a brony for only a week.

EDIT (over a year later): Actually, Klutz is exactly like Derpy. Funny how the two characters are the same and I created Klutz before MLP: FiM even existed! (I created all four Bricks characters in the summer of 2009, over a year before MLP: FiM aired.)

I watched episodes 1 and 2 yesterday.   Soon after, I got the "seeing ponies when I close my eyes" thing that happened to  you and Just Kidden.  Wow, this stuff is lodging itself into my brain.  My brain must like it a lot.

Now I figured out why I decided to try.  It was because of Repelling Spider.  He joined after this Community forum closed, so it's likely he never heard about MLP until after he got access (because I suggested that he be let in).  He kept an open mind and tried it.  Just one try, and he became a brony.  I thought that the show must be really good if someone who didn't have a preset opinion about it automatically liked it.  For the first time, I thought I might be missing out on something.  I found that I was missing out.  I had gone from antibrony to nonbrony to brony.

So, I mentioned MLP to a friend of mine (by going on this site and pointing out the pony avatars to him).  He took my reccomendation and he's going to try it.  We may have another brony on our hooves, everypony.

I was curious how many users of this site are bronies.  So I looked in this thread, into the depths of Cafe Corner (back to page 471), and even did a keword search.  I found out that there are around 30 known bronies on this site (including me).

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

So apparently, if you play Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade alongside the wedding (starting at Fluttershy's downbeat/the first note by the birds), it fits like a dream.

Re: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Appreciation Thread

I tried it.
You're right!
