Re: The CGI Thread

Yeah I would agree, if you added the little studs on the tops of each of the blocks that might be enough?

If I'm on the forums, I'm probably waiting for Blender to finish rendering.

That is a lot of vertices, not sure if my 4gb of RAM, duel core could handle that. mini/confused  Worth a try, I guess.

Re: The CGI Thread

You could just simplify and make the rotunda out of one mesh.  But if you want to brickify everything, its your RAM and CPU.

Like what LEGO did? It would make sense, but as you say, I like bricks.

And what is the error message you get? There should be something that pops up in the smaller blender window.

Have you considered using a terrain bumpmap instead?  One that would generate a terrain that looks like the rotunda's top dome with hard edges.  That way, you don't need to have all those vertices inside the dome set that we will never see.

I must admit to being pretty oblivious when it comes to bumpmaps. I know they are a prominent fixture in most CGI, but I've yet to take the time to learn anything about them.

when i try to import i get this message:

Python Script Error: Check Console

on the console, i get this

Traceback <most recent call last>:

line 279, in fs_callback

File "(location of ldraw import script)"
line 221, in read
File "(location of ldraw import script)"

i have no idea what this means

Re: The CGI Thread

what do you think? I'm going to try to add more DOF on the background. mini/smile

Re: The CGI Thread

The edges of the bricks seem very fine and it wouldn't hurt to bevel them a bit. But not too bad.

Re: The CGI Thread

The lighting looks good, and the background looks realistic, but the edges look REALLY sharp.

Re: The CGI Thread

The edges look sharp? It's only at half quality.

Re: The CGI Thread

I think it looks fairly good overall! So nice job! I think though it could be improved on in the area of the ground. If you check out photos of the Temple, you'll notice the complexity of the surrounding city and complexity of it. I'd suggest adding more to the ground itself to give it a more dynamic look. It also looks very cinematic so that's great! mini/smile

What program is it?

Re: The CGI Thread

It looks like of the normals are out of place on some of the bricks (Along with the sharp edge, it doesn't fit in too nicely). Other than that, I think it's a pretty nice shot. I do not think any more DoF is necessary, the background looks fine as is.

Re: The CGI Thread

Did you give any of the bricks an edge split modifier? The cone at the base looks like it needs one.
