My second film in HD!

Re: Finders Weepers

That was fantastic, man!
The story was pretty good and your animation is just perfect! *tears*
Seriously, one of the best brickfilms I've seen this year.

Re: Finders Weepers

That was really good. The animation and story were great. My only complaint would be I thought the animation was a little too smooth. I think really smooth animation looks rather unrealistic but other then that I loved your film. 5/5

Re: Finders Weepers

That was fantastic! The animation was great, and I found the short but simple story amusing.
Overall just great, congratulations, you've just got my first ever 5/5 on this site! mini/smile
Make some more animations!

Re: Finders Weepers

That was brilliant! The animation was so smooth! What FPS was that?
May I ask how you did the downwards dolly shot in the beginning?

Re: Finders Weepers

Nice job! The story was simple, but fun (albeit with a slightly-depressing ending). The animation looked very nice; I particularly enjoyed the falling dollar bill. The choices of music all worked very well and the subtle facial animations were very funny.

Did you build a rig for the camera movements?

I disagree. I think that this particular animation piece was extremely realistic due to it's fluidity and smoothness.

Fantastic film, Suburb. By far one of the best films of the year, if not the best. Everything was well executed in this film, and I can't find a single flaw at all. Very well done; I am looking forward to more from you in the future! mini/smile

Re: Finders Weepers

Thanks for all the feedback!
To answer some of the questions, I filmed Finders Weepers at 25 fps.  Most of my camera movements are done digitally with after effects.  The opening shot was a combination of several photos and the video of the set all stitched together with a digitally inserted sky backdrop.  In the shot where he squeezes past the dumpster, I built a track out of bricks and several 1x8 tiles (no studs).  I then constructed a tall base for the camera that slid smoothly along the track.  Then, for every frame, I moved it about a 16th of an inch or so.  It was a long process.  The dollar bill was animated with Blender.
Feel free to ask if there are any more questions!

Re: Finders Weepers

That was absolutely incredible.  Fantastic job, sir!  May I ask how you achieved that (I wanna say motion blur) effect?  It looked very good.  Great work SAS, I look forward to all your future films.

Re: Finders Weepers

Dude. That was amazing. Smoothest animation I've seen in like, maybe ever. As far as brcikfilms go. Nice motion blur on the jumping scene, and my jaw literally dropped when the dollar bill came floating in the wind. so smooth! props for taking the time to film in 25 fps, that takes a lot of patience. The sets are rock solid, and I didn't even know the quickcam could produce so high quality HD footage. Nice work. If there is one thing, I think the music choices at some times could be improved, but that's maybe just me. I salute you sir. You inspire me. Now I really wanna make brickfilms again! For what this film is, i give it a 10/10. It's not the most gripping of plots, but the execution is so damn flawless. Congrats!

Re: Finders Weepers

@Walrus,

Thanks so much!   The motion blur effect was achieved by using an After Effects plugin called "Cycore Force Motion Blur".  The plugin analyzes a sequence of frames, calculates the movement of everything in the video, and then adds motion blur accordingly.  It takes a LONG time.  The process is mostly automatic, but some manual masking is needed to prevent blurring in unwanted areas.  I was very surprised when I compared two clips: one with the blur and one without.  It adds a lot of realism to the animation, I think.

I you haven't watched this yet you need to! It's really good!

Re: Finders Weepers

Amazing animation!

Re: Finders Weepers

Okay, wow. You don't find many short animations like that. I quite enjoyed it. It thought what stood out at the beginning were those cool titles followed by some stunning animation. You sure have got quite some talent when it comes to animating, editing, and planning a brickfilm. I hope you do good in your contest, because you sure deserve to, one of the better brickfilms I've seen in a while, great job mini/smile!

Re: Finders Weepers

Nice work. I can't say it was realistic, but the animation was very fluid. There is a difference between realistic animation and smooth animation though, some parts looked strange because of the consistent speeds of movements, when they could have been faster or slower.

Re: Finders Weepers

What about the light flicker effect? The one at the bank with the alarm going off? mini/smile

Re: Finders Weepers

The light effect for the alarm going off was all done in post production with After FX (Brightness/Contrast filter).  Doing it with real dimming lights would have been possible I suppose, but way too much of a hassle with the equipment I have.

Re: Finders Weepers

The animation was so good, I almost cried.

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: Finders Weepers

That was awesome!  Especially, the parkour jump!  Just one question.  Did you erase a rig for the jump?  Or did you select out the character and move it manually?
