Trust me - there are a LOT of movies worse than At World's End. There is a whole world of terrible public-domain material, awful Hollywood schlock, failed art-house, crummy B-Movies (although some of them are really entertaining), p0rno spoofs, 70's/80's exploitation, obscure independent horror, Asylum movies, anything by Bruno Mattei, and Z-Grade martial arts movies out there. At Worlds End IMO has its redeeming qualities...
X-Men First Class
OK - I have only ever seen a few episodes of the cartoon (and all I remember is Beast, Dr X, Wolverine and that awesome theme tune). From what I have heard, X1 is OK, X2 is also OK, X3 is not very good, and 'Wolverine' sucks (FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD. I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG - AND I AM NOT JUDGING THESE MOVIES BY THEIR PRESS. I JUST HAVE'NT GOT AROUND TO WATCHING THEM YET)
Really, I watched this because it was an Orange Wednesday and there was nothing else good on. So I didn't really have an expectations. Apart from minor annoyance caused by watching the Transformers 3 trailer.....twice (the projectionist was an idiot - he even forgot to turn the lights on at the end so everyone had to stumble around in the dark to get out), I was fairly content. However, I really enjoyed it.
The dialogue was cheesy. There is the typical "Their fear will turn to anger" kind of stuff (insert Yoda reference here), and there was a really dramatic moment completely ruined:
Spoiler (click to read)
Eriks mother gets shot - and Erik screams "NNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEIN!!!"
Is that not the most hilarious thing ever? At first I thought it was just a scream of anger as he goes crazy with his powers, but then he suddenly ends it with "-EIN!!" Its the ultimate twist to the "NNNOOOO" cliché, I want that to play every-time I get a text...
I felt really bad for laughing out loud at such a dramatic moment - and I was the only one who did - but that made my year...
Also, the FBI Woman could not act. Its a shame, because apart from her the acting was excellent.
Overall: I thought it was good. Not the best of the year, but your better off seeing this instead of 'The Green Lantern'.
