Re: Egyptian Holiday

Boy howdy, mobiledeli, you've done something amazing. I was thoroughly impressed with your production values - the sets, the animation, and the lighting were all excellent! The voice acting was enjoyable and the characters fun.

I was a little disappointed, however, by the relative lack of a climax (why I believe some people have commented that it ended too quickly). We see the looming threat (we assume) of the skeletons, we see Allen and the professor reacting in their own ways, but it's cut short as Allen is simply rescued by a sudden deus-ex-machina. It ends up being a bit dissatisfying.

That all being said, this is still quite an accomplishment. Well done.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

It's a shame that this film is so good, that people have to be picky with it. And the adding of swearing in that one scene was a good thing to do. It works really well with the character, what he's doing and the light hearted comedic theme.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

Well, as I don't think you need any more praise and we & you already know you're a real genius in animation and this is brickfilms at its best, I would like to tell you the one thing I noticed which I think could have been better (with all due respect - the film was superb).

In my opinion, the sky's a bit too dark. When I was looking at the tests, I firmly believed that the sky was just a blue screen and therefore to be edited later. I mean, it's perfectly chroma blue. A lighter sky would suit the desert athmosphere better. Probably you could still do that, and insert a lighter sky without much trouble...... that is, if you agree with me.

10/10 from me. Epic. Warner Brothers couldn't do it better.

And the story's very nice, and witty. Come on boys, it's an 8 minute short! You can't expect big climaxes and that sort of things. It's not a full length feature film.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

This, now this is a good brickfilm.

The story lacked originality, it had a lot of cliche elements and the characters could have had a longer time to get to know them. I would have enjoyed to see them get prepared for the adventure.
The voice acting was very, very good. The voice actors you chose were just great in the quality of their voices and just the overall character they were able to portray flawlessly. They did a superb job doing the voices, you did a superb job giving the voices life.
The animation was almost flawless, but it did have some things that kind of bothered me like the running. If we could have seen his legs moving a bit more it would have felt a lot more like he was running rather than a wall moving while he moved his arms and moved his back back and forth. Besides that the animation was amazing.
The set design was just great. You did an excellent job with the scenery, like the sand. You also did an amazing job animating the minifigures on top of the sand w/out making any ripples at all! The inside of the pyramid was just amazing.
I would have enjoyed having the skeletons actually attack them. The way they were just standing there made it feel like there was no real danger coming from them. What I love is how drunk the old guy was when he saved the younger guy. (I can't remember their names. mini/tongue )
"I'LL COME BACK" "OH DON'T WORRY! THERE'S A WHOLE BOTTLE LEFT!"

That was an absoluetly wonderful film, mobiledeli. I can't wait to see more from you.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

A very well made film.  The only negative was the swearing, which in our opinion added nothing to the quality or storyline.  With that said, however, it was highly enjoyable to watch and we think that it is sure to get itself a few places in the BiMAs this year. mini/smile

Re: Egyptian Holiday

osnap swearing. Because running for your life from what could be man-eating spiders isn't worthy of a single cuss word that repeats a few times. mini/XD

Re: Egyptian Holiday

Why complaion about the swears? One word, OOOONE word repeated a few times, it added to the character and reality, i'm pretty sure that if you were chased by giant spiders you would scream out swears a couple of times. I loved that moment myself.

I don't have anything to add from what previous commentors have said about the film other than "I love it! Best brickfilm of the year so far" even though thats not saying much from what has come out thins year.

But this way, it makes it easier to imagine the professor and skeletons all getting drunk off the "WHOLE BOTTLE LEFT."

Re: Egyptian Holiday

This film succeeded in entertaining me, which is what I most want from a brickfilm.

Very good work on the sets also. It added a lot more realism.

Words fail me. I firmly believe this has set a benchmark animation, set design, and voice acting.

Sure, the storyline is basic - but I actually believe it is genre-busting. Its the professor who is leading the way and the guy with the hat following - compared to the hat guy leading whilst the professor just lends exposition. As pointed out, the guy who usually survives until the end before betraying everyone is killed off instantly. And the ending was perfect in my opinion - the abruptness is what made it so funny. Everyone is aware that they are in an adventure movie (although I think this concept could have been explored further), and it is most likely that the Professor is completely smashed.

And I agree that if I was being chased by "a legion of Spiiiidersss" I probably would be spouting similar dialogue (I'm sure all you complaining would have a panic attack if you ever saw a Tarantino Movie) But it was a little distracting - not that I dont mind swearing (although I rarely swear myself) but because it just didn't fit with the rest of the movie. I liked how the hat guy was a wimp (another genre busting move), but he did get a little annoying when confronted with both the spiders and the skeletons.

Another minor complaint is that I think the lighting could have been more interesting. The exterior shots were perfect, but I felt there were some missed opportunities inside. The only really interesting part was in the tomb with the light coming down from the ceiling. It would have been nice to have other shots like that.

I firmly believe this can join the list of genre-changing Brickfilms, such as: 'A LEGO BATMAN FILM ', 'The Force Unleashed', 'Frankenstein', and many others. The only criticism I can find are incredibly minor nit-picks. Trust me, when your trying to find the tiniest flaws in animation - you know you have a great movie on your hands.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

Well, I'll spare you a long, detailed comment, so I'll say this: This was amazing in every way (well worth the painstaking animation you put into it). My only problem was its randomness, and the apparent lack of intelligence in the doctor.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

Yes, I too was hoping the doctor would be a bit more dignified and less, well, drunk.

Other than that, the film was all good.

Re: Egyptian Holiday

Wow.

I was expecting it to be brilliant..

My expectations were exceeded.

I understand the whole "buildup" argument, but still, it was great.

I think that's the point. The whole joke is that the Doctor is useless.

Well, I thought it was a funny joke...
