Those would be flood lights
To give a glow on the sky. I suppose it could be like the sand is reflecting the light.

I don't have the opportunity to see this yet, but I loved HAM ON SET so much, that I'll be enjoying this soon. I watched the scorpions fighting w/o sound. Animation looks great!
