Re: Interdimensional Adventures (working title)
This set has been animated! You'll get to see it for a total 8 1/3 seconds, shame it has such a short screen time, as it looks great and is easy to animate, with almost nothing to bump on the beach.

Sloth, I will intentionally pause the video in order to bask in the wonder this set prompts from me.
Something that always bothered me in my old movies was I would have these huge ships that look sweet and I wouldn't have any good money shots of them in set so I am trying to fix that in this film. There will be a few scenes where the whole ship is comped in but this might be one of the few shots where the whole ships in in camera in the shot.
(and rather then pause the shot you might want to look that animation, some stuff in it looks way cooler animated then static)
That set is amazing, very impressive! The lighting and the rockface design is fantastic, I can't wait for the final release!
Here is a pic of the whole beach set up, I had to animate it in front of the projector screen, don't usually like to take over the theater like that but it was worth it.
Working on setting up the next shot, has a nice Classic Space vibe going on
EPIC
Tried to animated this shot and utterly failed, may have to change the camera angle and cut the set in half
I love the amazing colors and the beauty in the sets you make, SlothPaladin. I can't wait to see this film!
This was one of the most painful shots ever, it's not perfect but I redid the animation and it is acceptable, I had severe issues with set bump in the first take but I redesigned the way I took the set apart every frame so it would wiggle less.
yes, I was planning on having the doors close once they got inside but thought it would look cool if you could see the elevator shaft as the car descended.
if you are referring to the elevator: I have a support under the elevator, every frame I take it out and put in a support that is 1 stud shorter
or if you are referring to the animation in the hallway: The floor can be removed from the set, then the minifigs are animated and I put the floor back into the set, I access the floor from beneath the hallway.
Well I got another 6 seconds animated, thats all I'll be able to do this week. I also made this nifty test for a fish swimming rig I will need later in the film.
This really seems like my kind of film. Of all the brickfilms being made at the moment, I have to say I'm looking forward to this one the most. The lighting is absolutely fantastic. How have I never heard of this before? Really impressive. The quality of the picture is really good too, may I ask what your camera is? I know it's a DSLR, so I probably won't ever be able to afford it, but it still interests me.
Do you have any idea of a release date? I'm guessing not for a while, something to look forward to.
Thanks Filmfire
Lighting is the more important then camera quality, if you can afford any of the fancy stuff I use I would suggest you buy colored gels and some black wrap. If you live in a major city you should be able to find a professional video/photography store that sells these things.
The main problem I have with video cameras is that I can't get a shutter speed that is less then 1/30 of a second, a few shots in this movie have shutter speeds that are over a second long.
I am using a Canon Digital Rebel XT ($550 [£338] new, $250-$350 [£154-£215] used) with an adapter for Nikkor Lenses. I primarily use a 55mm micro lenses built in the 70s, it takes incredible pictures. I also have 18mm, 24mm, and 35mm prime Nikkor lenses which I use less commonly. I am shooting blind with a tethered remote.
I would love to upgrade to a Digital Rebel XSi and animate using Dragon but I can't really afford it, I could keep using my lenses and just get the body only for about what my old camera cost (seems strange that the cost of the Rebel XT is higher then the XSi, price hasn't seemed to have dropped since I got it years ago) Just for the record the camera in the setup pictures in not the camera I use, it is a Nikon film camera that I put on my tripod for reference (I have to use the DSLR to take the pictures)
Can't really tell you when the film will be done, I am currently working on the film on Fridays and Saturdays and I do update my sig when I have finished bits of animation. I am guessing this will be between 4-7 minuets but I won't know for sure until I get more of the shots finished.
Man, that fish rig is amazing and must be a pain to mask (like any masking is not a total pain). My only complaints about the animation test are
1. the movement was not consistent
2. it would be nice if they moved up and down a little (as previously mentioned)
3. I'm sure you'll add this in the final cut, but some bubble and underwater vision effects would sell the whole thing.
