The Hobbit
70's cartoon resembles 70's cartoon, completely unlike the book but entirely enjoyable, mainly for laughing at the very strange looking characters.
Still complete awesomeness.
I probably like it cause we did it in class, way better than writing essays. sadly I will only see half of it, as I'm gone the day we are supposed to finish it.

It has the word 'love' in it.

Batman: Under The Red Hood

Pretty good, must be the most violent Batman cartoon film there is.
The actors do a great job at the voices but they definatly can't beat the original Batman TAS actors (Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill)
Overall a Batman fan recommend

3,5/5

The Island

It starts of really good but goes downhill with action trying to save this movie from it's lazy writting.

Inception came out a few days ago here in Italy. Do you recommend it?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I do.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Alien

I watched it in Film Studies (which is the best subject ever) along with 'JAWS' in preparation for a comparison essay. I've watched JAWS once before, but never 'Alien'. And I prefer 'Alien'.

Sure, when you compare the gore and horror to recent R Rated ketchup-fests, its not really that scary. It has the classic elements of Horror, and I did jump a couple of times (THAT DARN CAT!!!) but today's audiences, like 'JAWS', will find most of the effects humorous. Yeah, back in 1979 people would have been vomiting in the isles, but whilst the infamous 'dinner table scene' would have been stomach churning - today it is actually really funny.

The only nitpick I have is that the only character I ever cared about was Jonesey the Cat...apart from when that stinking fur-ball keeps making you jump! But apart from that its just adorable. Its really funny when Ripley is running away from the Alien (which is BAD A$$!!) but is taking the Cat along with her. In many ways, the cat adds to the movie, so I dont think Scott should have left it out. But....who brings a cat in space? (Awaits lolcat image....)

Oh, and the behind the scenes details are more stomach churning than the special effects. Seriously, a guy had to have sheep testicles stuck to his face?

My dear Jargon, I did not review the film in question. I simply stated a character trait of the protagonist. Fear not, my taste in film is in excellent.

It's an alright film, but less intelligent than a lot of people seem to think.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Passion of Joan of Arc

Really good. Maria Falconette's performance is astounding, one of the most nuanced and haunting that I've seen.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

DOUBLE POST

Sexy Beast

To say that Ben Kingsley steals the show would be an understatement; his presence looms over the entire movie, even when he's not in the picture. The rest of the cast delivers fine performances, but this is truly Don Logan's film. Otherwise, this is still a fine film, with excellent attention paid to character development.

YES. YES! I love this movie, I can do the dance! "ITS HIP TO BE SQUARE!" mini/XD

Tropical Malady

Really engrossing; one of the most original films I've seen.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Transformers

This truly saddens me...

Racism is now comedy? Mindless action is now a "gripping plot"?

What has humanity come to?

The worst part is, that the scenes where 20 foot tall robots are fighting eachother are the LEAST ridiculous ones.

Now if you don't mind, I'm going to my room to cry.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

When is there racism in "Transformers"? Not that I'm defending the movie, I just can't remember any.
PS: It's a movie about giant alien robots that transform into cars and fight each other. I doubt you're suprised at it.

The Great Escape
I can see why this is a classic.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Sunset Boulevard

One of my favorite movies, some friends were over and I said something to the effect that some of my favorite movies were films about film and one of them said that that seemed sort of like a cop-out, so I showed them Sunset Boulevard and that settled that.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Alan Arkin and Sondra Locke give fine performances, but I couldn't help but feel the narrative was a bit too fragmented and unfocused. As a cohesive whole, I don't think a lot of the subplots merged well with each other. I also don't think we got enough time with Singer to really understand him on a personal level, so...

Spoiler (click to read)

the ending came off as a bit out-of-nowhere rather than tragic and poignant. I guess maybe the point was that we weren't supposed to know Singer more than the other characters, but regardless, the ending wasn't nearly as powerful as it should have been.

Also, it felt like a lot of important aspects of each story were never really resolved properly, so a lot of stuff is left without any real sense of closure (such as Mick's relationship with her mother, Singer's thing with chess, the doctor's cancer, what exactly Antonapoulos died of, etc.). It's all sorta left in limbo.

However, some individual parts of the film were well-done, especially the scenes between Singer and Antonapoulos.

Gets better every time I watch it.

Obsession
Man, this film was great, one of my favorite DePalma's next to Carrie. Herrmans score
was fantastic.

Witchfinder General
Vincent Price was great. Great horror film.
