Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I have to agree with you on that, Max. I expected all the time that T3 would be a terrible movie, but I was surprised. But I still have to say, I think the plot was filled with holes and the casting for John Conner was DISASTROUS, I wanted to hurt a small fluffy animal ever time he came on screen. The action was definitely the huge plus point with that movie, and I didn't expect the cgi to be that good. Anyways...

Sherlock Holmes

Yes, this is the third time seeing it for me! I still really enjoyed it, and I'd be willing to see it a fourth time! And it's not just because I love Sherlock Holmes but I think by itself, it's a well made film. And in many ways, in my opinion, it isn't the Sherlock Holmes movie. But it's the closest to it so far. Although Robert Downey Jr.'s speaking was reminiscent of Christian Bale's voice in Batman, being hard to follow and he just doesn't seem like the first person that comes to your mind when you think of an actor to play SH, but I love the creativity he had with the character. Jude Law was also great, but they weren't really accurate to the books when it comes to his character and that makes me mad, he just always seemed cranky to be around Holmes and that was not at all the way he was in the books, in fact, in the books he was excited when Sherlock Holmes wanted him to come along with him to solve another case. I think casting him was great though. Every other time I've seen someone play Waston, he's a fat, old guy, when in the books, he actually is not like that very much at all. And although I enjoyed the passe of the film, something in it felt wrong, like it was missing things. And it's true, it is missing scenes (or they're alternate scenes) if you look in the trailer there's quite a few things that looked like they were edited out. And that's why I want the DVD. ;P
Great action too, although at times action scenes could have definitely have been left out and I still would have been in to the movie. And it did get ridiculous a bit, like the ending (sigh, does every movie really have to end with a fight scene between the two main good guy and bad guy? I think I mentioned this before mini/tongue). I view this more as a Batman and Robin type theme of a movie, and I think it works really well if you look at it that way. And did I mention I think the Score is the greatest thing to come around in decades?

Dracula (1958)

Christopher Lee is awesome mini/bigsmile
I must say that it was pretty violent for a 50's movie, the brits seemed to rule at horror around that time.
I look forward to see the sequels mini/bigsmile

Adventureland

'Twas a laidback, well-written and fairly amusing little film. Plus it had Lou Reed songs. Which is totally rad. I personally would've utilized Bill Hader a bit more, but other than that I have no complaints.

It was kind of funny, though. I relaxed and watched the movie and had a good time, and afterwards, I was just casually looking over the back of the DVD case, when I saw it was rated R. I was like 'Wait, what?!' Then someone pointed out to me that the movie had multiple uses of the 'F' word and a sh!tload of weed. Lol, I find that sort of thing so inoffensive I barely thought about it.

Well, it certainly wasn't the "disaster of a disaster movie" HISHE claimed it was.  I rather enjoyed it, and the special effects were amazing.
For some reason I just accepted the movie, despite the cons involved.  Even if the whole time my common sense meter was going "WAIT THEY SHOULD'VE DONE THIS INSTEAD"!

It was a "worth-seeing" movie no doubt, a lot of fun overall.  Unfortunately that's pretty much all the positive things you can say.  The acting was average, the plot, although with a few surprises here and there, was average.  The characters can also accept death on a huge scale without so much as freaking out.  "We just flew away in the nick of time again, AND LOOK!  Thousands of people are dyeing."  or "Where's Gordon?  He was squished? Inconceivable!  OK, now where were we?"

If you can throw logic away, it'll be worth your time.  And seeing as we are all brickfilmers, you should have the patience. 3.3/5

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I watched two movies yesterday, kind of.

Honey, I blew up the Kid
Now, I had heard of this movie before, but I didn't dare watch it. It sounded like one of those cheesy terrible 90s films. Too bad I had forgotten how awesome these cheesy 90 movies were. OK, so I only saw the second half of the film, but it was enough to understand the entire story. It remind me quite a lot of Flubber. If you haven't seen Flubber, seriously, get out. mini/tongue . I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would. Some of you will probably disagree with me, but I don't care.

Big Daddy
I saw this movie a while ago, but after watching it again, I realized I had hardly seen any of it. So, it starts off a bit bad, I mean, it's pretty easy to start off a movie with a guy who is unemployed, is lonely and has messed up his life. Loads of movies do that, like School of Rock. However, it was probably the best option in this case for the plot of the film. It was quite enjoyable and some of the stuff made me laugh so hard. The language is quite strong but I still think it would go down as a good family movie. Great film.

Europäisches Jahrmarktkino 1896-1916 (European Cinema of Attractions 1896 - 1916)
A bunch of very old short films. Slapstick, art, oddities, pron, x-ray film, animal documentation, cartoons... Everything the average person about 100 years ago liked to watch. Long before "The Birth of a Nation" all the rules we know today were non existent. One can feel the anarchic spirit of the new medium, the joy of experimentation. Things I miss in films of our time. Plus: you'll see that they were painted (virage and handcolouring) and not just black and white like most people think. It's definitely worth watching.

All of the movies: 0/5!

These are possibly the worst movies ever made! I already knew this but really! I mean, what is up with the uncalled for showing of butt when they're getting suited up? Like what the hell is this S--T? And also, why is there huge spotlights shining stars onto everything or other screwed up patterns? And the weird cannibal rapists dressed in neon glow-in-the-dark crap they paint on themselves! Sheesh, worst movies ever. mini/dizzy

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Cloverfield

First off, WOW.  I liked this movie a lot.  However, I'm sorry to say I wasn't "super frightened".  I think this is because I spoiled the ending for my self by reading a HISHE review.  And next time I watch a movie like this, I will not spoil it at all.

I have to admit, my expectations for this movie weren't that high but man, I was blown away.  The effects were incredible, the acting was... Good enough mini/shifty , good character development, and the unique hand-held style was very good.  I couldn't find anything in the movie that my "common sense meter" didn't like besides, "LEAVE BETH!"  But hey, they were good friends at least.

As Roger Ebert pointed out, "How did they manage to get enough energy to climb all those stairs and then after wards keep running?"  As for some of the running I'd have to agree, the whole film they're running or walking or climbing or fighting, except when they're resting.  And as for the stair climb you can tell they took breaks, Hud just stopped filming.

Overall I thought it was epic: 4.2/5

The only common sense issue with Cloverfield I noticed is that... wait, this is sort of a spoiler...

Spoiler (click to read)

As was pointed out in a Cracked article, Clover makes a horrendous amount of noise. He destroys stuff all over, shakes the ground as he walks and makes stuff explode any time he does anything, but then he/it somehow manages to sneak up on the survivors in the middle of central park. "When did the monster stop making a big explodey scene everywhere it went and start tip-toeing up behind people like a 100-foot-tall ninja."

Not that this really effects the quality of the film; Cloverfield is still a great movie (although it was way over hyped when it came out).
