Topic: That's not the Force, THIS is the Force...unleashed

Crocodile Dundee anyone?  Anyways, of all the bandwagon series that sprouted in the name of brickfilming (The Door, Dictionary Series, Dane Cook), Mr. FancyPants' take on the Lightsaber Challenge has inspired me to take part.

Some of you may have seen my earlier attempts at a lightsaber duel here.

Here's my latest work in progress (after watching dozens of The Force Unleash videos).

good work!

Re: That's not the Force, THIS is the Force...unleashed

I love the lightsaber detail and the saber throw, but what was he doing with the blue force stuff?

Energy balls are kinda lame. It's Star Wars, not Dragon Ball Z. But apart from that I really liked it. Nice boomerang throw though. I liked that.

TFU's way of visually representing a force push.  In this case, the person is trying to blow the doors open with the Force.

So technically, it's not energy balls, but I suppose I should reduce the visibility and intensity of the force push.

Yeah, in the game it looks more like a ripple in the air than what you made, so I was a bit confused.

It shall be tweaked.

Some hilt designs.

The 2nd from the right is LEGO's hilt piece.  I included it for comparison.

I'm back. Possibly.

Really?  You'd think it'd be the hilts that trigger your immature impulses but the blades?  Hmm...

I like them, it has this different style which most of the Star Wars nerds hate. mini/smile

The lightsaber designs are awesome. Plus I wouldn't mind this becoming the new Dane Cook thing. One question though Lech, or anyone else: how do you rotate the minifigs arms so that it stays matched up with the body? Because the body is slanted but you can only rotate along the x, y, or z axis, and it would be way too hard to align it with more than one rotation, and besides that, it would be off in the animation.

Re: That's not the Force, THIS is the Force...unleashed

If you're using a rig (bone structure, skeleton, etc.) then you can align the bone joint of the arms at 9.94 degrees and just constraint the axis of rotation to the one that works for the arm.  Same goes for the neck and legs.  However, if you're using a hierarchy (hand is a child of the arm, arm is a child of the torso, etc.), then it's a bit tricky because I tend to stay away from that method when it comes to arbitrary axis of rotation (i.e. a 9.94 degree axis).  One thing you could do is import the arm in it's original alignment (not from the minifig generator, just the arm as is from the library).  That way, its rotation axis are normal (perpendicular) to the arm's socket.  Of course, you would have to reposition the center of rotation to the socket but I'm assuming you figure that part already.

I think I get it now. Thanks!

This is slightly off-topic, but why the combative title?
Were you deliberately trying to compare it to Fancypant's film?

Actually, I was going to go with "lightsaber" but that wasn't the focus of my post.  And no, I was comparing it to everyone else's attempt on the Lightsaber Challenge.

Re: That's not the Force, THIS is the Force...unleashed

I have a question for you Lech. How would you use the Blender particle system to make the fighters and ships fire lasers, like you do in many of your films. I am terrible at particles at the moment, and I don't think any other tutorials would cover how to do it like you do. I know this is kind of the wrong thread, but I didn't want to create an entirely new thread just for this, and I didn't want to do any major bumping either.
