Topic: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

I am running at 16 fps and I don't think that it's the best but it does look good, if any of you could tell me, what frame rate do you guys use?

Thanks

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

Most of us use 15fps. I've never actually heard of anybody using 16. Are you sure that's not a typo?

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

15 fps for me, even the CGI (to keep it the same frame rate in the whole film)

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

no its not a typo, I've used that frame rate ever since i've started to brickfilm

Do you use WMM? If so, that is your problem. Most people use 15 (as previously stated), but some use 24 fps.

Can we see some footage on how the fps looks too slow?

I (very) often switch from 24 to 15 fps and back again. This results in a massive amount of test videos each time I switch.

15 frames per second is the most popular framerate in brickfilms.

Tbh 16 is better for timing.

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

It depends on the things the figs should do, but I think you shold never go under 10fps.
Here is an example:

6step walk cycle: 15fps
5step wc: 12fps
4step wc: 10fps

for a normal speed walking.
I used to animate min. 12fps.

If you are able to, do as much as possible mini/wink

for beginners, 15. I'm not really a beginner, but I use it.

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

I personally switched from 15 to 24 a few years ago and while I got some very nice animation tests out of it (which are kinda lost now) it was a pain to animate with. I switched back to 15. My current project is being shot at 12FPS though.

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

I've been doing a couple test films, and when I play it back at 15fps, it looks slower and blocky, but when I push it up to 24 it looks pretty good, so I've settled with 24, because I haven't managed to film anything I'm happy with at 15. So once you've got a technique you like, just play it back at varying rates, and go with what ever looks best, unless you're lazy.

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

use 12-15 or 30 if you want a really good vid but its ok 16

15-24 I've tried 30 but it's a big pain, it takes forever, so don't use 30fps mini/wink .

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

One other thing you can consider is shooting doubles. Basically you shoot at a high frame rate (like 24FPS or 30FPS) but each frame you take is taken twice, so that you effectively have only 12 or 15 different frames in one second. Then you can switch from doubles to singles (basically from 12/15 to 24/30) for scenes that have fast action. This is how the old animation studios (like Disney) did their animations and it's how many old cartoons were drawn.

Re: What would be the best Frame rate to use in one of my films?

I'm sure you mean well but if you'll notice, the last post before yours in this thread was back in January.  Obviously the guy's question is resolved at this point.  If you could refrain from "bumping" really old threads like this when there's not much left to be contributed that'd be good.  Thanks.

I personally think low frame rates can look cool if you know what you're doing, and most people associate low frame rates with many other mistakes beginners make.
