Sherlock Holmes
I really liked this film, great cinematography and mostly well done acting. Since I have not read any of the books, I can't tell how well they did the story, though what I was presented on the screen was very interesting and to times hilarious.

Its better than Avatar.
I cannot find any flaws in this movie. It did what Avatar couldnt: It married humour, action, cinematography, and a plot worthy of the classic novels.
For that - its better.

Sherlock Holmes
Man... I really liked some of that.
The mystery wasn't exactly mysterious enough for me, compared to recent Holmes fare like 'The Silk Stocking'. His opium addiction wasn't exactly obvious, except for a hint the scene where Watson rips open the curtains. The plot seemed to lose focus in the middle, and some of the script was a little too 'look at me, I'm so clever!' instead of actually making things hard to predict.
Blackwood's faking of his own death was predictable, especially after Holmes had already knocked out the dog. And so I sat around waiting for that to be 'revealed', and it was. Seriously, there is a difference between Holmes and this Holmes TM. The difference is simply the respect paid to the audience.
I loved the Jude Law/Robert Downey Jr. relationship, although it felt like it was adlibbed, as the script didn't support their humor outside of specific moments. I dug the moments of insight into Holmes' mind, which I thought were excellently done and exactly what Conan Doyle had in mind, and they just worked.
But as a Holmes story, this wasn't nearly as good as some of the recent releases... which was a bit of a let down. I was hoping more for a mixture of The Prestige and Silk Stocking on a slightly larger scale (and without the chronological disparity of The Prestige). I didn't want a massive wrap-around shot of the London Bridge under constriction? I know its big, and I know its there. I loved that it was included, but I didn't need a Michael Bay pan. It felt like a waste of money and time there, completely interrupted a chase!
All in all, 8/10. Excellent film, but by no means an excellent Holmes story. Visually spot-on, no question. It just lacked a little bit in the script, I felt.

I really enjoyed that film. The script went a little funny sometimes but it was a good mystery!

Finally got to see this. Very cool film - it's strength is certainly its ability to immerse the viewer in the story.

I feel like this film could've been a lot longer, but it was pretty cool. The concept was amazing, and I loved how everything tied together. Awesome movie.
