The Day the Earth stood still (2008)

Summary: Keanu Reeves does his best impersonation of a wooden plank. Some special effects happen in the background.

I'm not sure if the movie strayed too far from the original, or if it kept to close. Either way, something is wrong. If you feel like watching this movie, save yourself 90 minutes and watch the trailer twice. You'll get pretty much the gist of the movie, plus you'll probably be able to imagine a better ending on your own.

I now want to watch the original, just to see how the two versions differ.

I can't imagine anything worse than the holiday special. Some segments are distinctly traumatizing. I've actually had that horrible "stir! whisk! stir! whisk!" chant in my head all day.

The Iron Giant (1999)

Saw this for the first time this afternoon. Probably one of the best cartoons I've ever seen. Just awesome.

Chewbacca coming home to his family for Life Day. And then a bunch of random stuff like a stupid cooking show, dancing... dancers, and  Grandpa Wookie having a wet dream.] The whole thing is on Youtube, but over half of it is just Chewbacca's family talking to each other without subtitles, so you probably won't be able to watch the whole thing.

Spectacular, utterly spectacular. The cinematography was mindblowing. Could very well be the best film of 2008.
