Topic: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

Stanley Kubrick is a true example of quality over quantity.

1) A Clockwork Orange
2) 2001: A Space Odyssey
3) Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
4) Full Metal Jacket
5) Eyes Wide Shut
6)The Shining
7) Spartacus
8 )Lolita

To be honest I've not yet seen Kubrick's early 50s and late 50s films.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

I'll list the ones I've seen.

1) The Killing

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

1) Full Metal Jacket
2) A Clockwork Orange
3) 2001: A Space Odyssey
4) The Shining

I really have to see Lolita  but I can't find the DVD anywhere. I've got Barry Lyndon on DVD but haven't seen it.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

I've only seen 2001 and Dr. Strangelove, and I honestly liked 2001 more.

As is Terrence Malick.

1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
2. The Shining
3. Spartacus
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey
5. Full Metal Jacket
6. The Killing
7. A Clockwork Orange

The rest I haven't seen yet. (Although some would include A.I.)

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

I've been really interested in looking into Kubrick's work, I got a biographical book of his filmogrophy for Christmas. I've yet to read it thoroughly, mainly because I want to watch more of his extended catalogue before reading about it.

Dr Strangelove
Barry Lyndon
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Eyes Wide Shut

I still need to see A Clockwork Orange, I'm not really sure why haven't. Vik, you have to watch Barry Lyndon, it was one of my favourite films and definitely deserves more praise than it gets.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

Kubrick is extremely hard to rank he metamorphoses with each of his films. I think I've only seen 4 Kubricks, 2001, Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket.

If you asked me to rank Sci-Fi films I'd have 2001 at the top and if I were to rank comedy films I would have Strangelove near the top.

2001: A Space Odyssey
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
A Clockwork Orange
Full Metal Jacket

I really recommend this documentary on Kubricks way of working http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Kubrick's_Boxes it shows what sort of research he put into his films and it's a huge huge huge amount of research.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

^ I saw that on SBS a few weeks ago. Really interesting.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

I have only seen 3 of his movies (The shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Full Metal Jacket), but they were awesome. I'm looking for the others. I love his style.

Full Metal Jacket
2001: A Space odyessey
The Shining

It's quite hard to make a list for me, can't really tell wich one is my favourite for now.

Re: Rank Stanley Kubrick's Films

I have only seen 'Doctor Strangelove' and '2001'. I prefer 'Strangelove' as the better movie experience. Sure, '2001' has more thought and visual qualities, but I've always preferred the witty and enjoyable over the deep and meaningful. Its just more entertaining to watch, and makes me want to come back more. Meaningful is just as important though.

'2001' is still the second best Science Fiction movie I have ever watched, rivalled only by Star Wars. I know its blasphemy to put Lucas *spit* in front of Kubrick (who, judging by these two movies alone, is a genius), but again, wit and enjoyability over deep and meaningful (I'm talking about the Original Star Wars Trilogy. There are no prequels or spin-off's).

Yeah, I've just removed all credibility I have. I'm off to watch more Kubrick...

Aaah, you beat me too it. Then again, I'm not sure if you can talk about quality over quantity when it comes to cinema. There are directors who made 80 or 90 films to get a handful of universally acclaimed masterpieces, and I wouldn't grudge them for it at all.

I've only seen 2001 and Dr. Strangelove. Both are good. I really need to see Barry Lyndon because I hear it's his best.
