Y'know what's classic? Those 80's (I think) stop-motion LEGO Studio commercials. Aw yeah.

Those were in the early 2000s.

Re: Brickfilm classics

I was wondering, what private Lego stop motion was the first ever?

Re: Brickfilm classics

This is the first known brickfilm, from 1973: Journey to the Moon

I also compiled a large list of pre-2000 brickfilms here.

Re: Brickfilm classics

I thought The Magic Portal was the first.

Re: Brickfilm classics

If you'd follow Pentas link you'd see that the Magic Portal isn't even in the top ten earliest brickfilms

Re: Brickfilm classics

Yeah, but wasn't it traditionally thought to be the first?

Re: Brickfilm classics

It did have the reputation as the earliest known for a long time, but now we know more.

Re: Brickfilm classics

Thanks! I didnt knew the 1973 movie. I love it! mini/lol

Re: Brickfilm classics

My father-in-law made one with an 8mm somewhere in 1986/1987 in the Netherlands I bet he hoped to be the first!

Re: Brickfilm classics

I would love to see it if he still has a copy!

Re: Brickfilm classics

I'm quite sure he does, I'll try to get a hold of it

Re: Brickfilm classics

Great, thank you!

Re: Brickfilm classics

I have seen the 1973 brickfilm a few times before. It's incredible to think that people were brickfilming, back when my Dad was just a toddler!

Anne Frank in Bricks (Trailer) by Weirdears is just a perfect existentialist classic. It spawned a whole contest of tribute films.

That's not quite what the topic is about. See topic post:

Okay, this thread is dedicated to brickfilms that you would count as classics.

Yes, there can be some classic brickfilms that may revolve around classic literature themes, but classic lit books in themselves are not necessarily classic brickfilms.

Re: Brickfilm classics

To avoid repeating some popular choices that have already popped up on this thread...

I'd say Loyalty should be considered a classic. It doesn't really have any aspects that make it stand out above your average brickfilm fare, but then again, neither does Nathan Wells' Beast. It was one of the best brickfilms to come out of BRAWL 2014 (in my opinion), and, I still watch it every once in a while when the inkling calls.

Another brickfilm I revisit often is Doug Vandegrift's Pirates!. While not as revered as America: Outlawed, I think this brickfilm is equally as enjoyable. Some of the water effects still hold up really well, and the score is fantastic!

This may be a bit too early to call, but, I'd like to think that Squash's About will be another often cited and watched brickfilm. There's really not much that can be said of it, since, it really speaks for itself. I'd recommend you all go watch that if you haven't already/don't remember it.

No.
Unrenewable is a very very very good film, but it certainly is NOT a classic.

Soo... like all I wanna know is, can we call Unrenewable a classic now? mini/tongue

Good to see you keeping the legend alive, Richard. Little known fact: WeirdEars himself actually made a HD remake in 2014, but he wasn't pleased with the result. Maybe because the baseplate seems to stay in place, for some odd reason.
