Topic: Starting Off

I've been thinking. Because obviously I really enjoy LEGO, Brickfilming, and all the mediums within it (Including reviewing and MOCing) I've decided to give Brickfilming a go. I've done various clips before and I've watched pretty a lot of tutorials, but generally I need some personal advise. I have very good lamps and stuff already - but is there any particular capture programs?
Thanks!

Helium Frog is my animator of choice, but that's just assuming you have a PC and not a Mac.

If you have any questions, just ask. mini/wink

Re: Starting Off

Yeah, I do have a Mac. I wonder why PCs are more popular? mini/lol

Re: Starting Off

I'd say monkeyjam to start off with, its simple.

Re: Starting Off

Hmm..

It depends.. Wouldn't iStopmotion be better?

Re: Starting Off

Is that for Mac as well?

Re: Starting Off

Oh sorry didn't see him say he had a mac.

Re: Starting Off

Can you do it with any camera? For instance, if I was to get something like iStopmotion would it work with any camera or with web-cams only?

Re: Starting Off

You can get it to work with some digital cameras and video cameras, they need firewire or like webcam capability or something.

Re: Starting Off

They need to be linked to the computer from there you can control the focus lighting and all that.

Is the quickcam pro 9000 OK for Mac as well?

Re: Starting Off

There are two versions of the 9k made by Logitech. One is compatible for PC, and the other works for Mac. The Mac compatible webcam is slightly more expensive, but it is well worth the money.

Re: Starting Off

Most of us use PC so we wont really know any free frame capturing software for macs.

You don't have as much control from your computer with the mac one. I don't have a QC9000 for ether but I have heard of complains about the mac version compared to PC.

No. Buying that for brickfilming would be a complete waste of money because it doesn't have full manual controls. Same with the PC version because... that's for PC (unless you're using it on PC).

iStopmotion is fantastic, but it's not free. Definitely worth the money though.

I have a PC, so I was basing it off the assumption that it is exactly the same as the PC compatible version. mini/tongue

Re: Starting Off

Thanks, Hazzat! Can anyone give me a tutorial on how to get it? The buying process seems complicated - also, they don't have Ireland. mini/confused

Bumping, I know, but I had to.

Macintosh creates their own computer with their operating system, so only mac computers can run that system, and they wont sell the operating system to anyone. That is why every mac I know of has the Macintosh logo on the back or front, somewhere. PC, on the other hand, is different. Bill Gates decided at a meeting with IBM that instead of giving their operating system to IBM, that they would sell it to IBM, and let other companies buy their system as well. So when Dell, HP, Gateway, and those guys came along, they bought the system from Microsoft as well, so therefore, people can buy whatever computer they want, but since there are more computer manufacturers who sell Microsoft operating systems, People get more PC computers than Mac Computers. This explains the Mac vs. PC commercials. Mac wants more people to buy their computers, so they convince everyone Mac is more popular.

Re: Starting Off

They both have advanteges and disadvanteges but PC sales are mainly in schools, hospitals and buissness as well as the public while macs are more of a movie and sound editing based computer.
