Re: The CGI Thread

Mmmmmm..... I don't know. Sorry.

I wish though that the model would keep it's initial colors when exported from LeoCad and imported into Blender. Is there a way to do this?

Usually the colors stay the same when imported, however, if you downloaded it off a website it depends on if the modeler adjusted the colors before hand. It's usually not that big of a deal though, as you can use a color palette to determine what color you want and then color it through the materials window in Blender.

Re: The CGI Thread

I'm not totally pleased with how this turned out, but decided that it looks better when in motion.

Re: The CGI Thread

do you have Motion blur turned on? I cant seem to see it, but that'd make it look alot better, and if you do, to get some on the jet, make the camera move around some, like a lil hand-held-ness, and maybe inch closer to the front as time moves on... but, otherwise, dont be to displeased with it, good job.

Re: The CGI Thread

Wow legoguy501! That's pretty impressive. May I ask how you created those mountains/hills? People have been doing that around here, and I never knew if they built them brick by brick or if they used a different technique.

Re: The CGI Thread

Nice work legoguy501. I think motion blur would be nice, but other than that I think it's a solid image.

There is a modifier in Blender (I think it's re-mesh) that allows you to distort a plane into a rigid surface.

Figured it was a modifier, thanks!

What are the steps to remesh it?

Re: The CGI Thread

I gave a description of how to accomplish the blocky mountains here.

And thanks for the feedback guys. Glad you liked it. mini/smile

I know it's a bit hard to see, but this is a frame from my latest CGI creation of a Millennium Falcon fly-by.

Here's the whole clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U52eRsFXu6M

Re: The CGI Thread

GHB I'd choose a different camera position next time, so the Falcon is closer and one can see more of it mini/wink
Despite that, it's nicely done!

I agree, that really annoys me too. I'll try to think more of my camera position next time. Thanks!

Re: The CGI Thread

This is a thumbnail I created for the space battle teaser (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2gjP7vQAb0) of my biggest project so far.
Off course the image is edited in After Effects and all the explosions and lasers weren't made in Blender.
However, I really am not happy with my materials, so could someone please give me some tips? I (more or less) switched to cycles recently, so I'm not fully into it yet.

Re: The CGI Thread

Dont mean to bump an old thread, but can anyone direct me to a guide to making a 3d city? As in sky scrapers to use as a background behind my already existing city. Is it just a matter of building it in leoCAD and importing to cinema4d?

Re: The CGI Thread

That looks absolutely amazing Speck. I saw the teaser as well and it too looks amazing. How can you possibly render something of that scale in cycles? It would surely take a heck of a long time, especially since the quality is amazing. I tried rendering an animation in cycles and it took ages.

Uh, you posted ten minutes after the post before you. In what way was this an old thread?

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

How is the image so clear? And all of those large ships would kill my computer to render! How did you pull that off?

1. Low DoF, high working resolution
2. High RAM (Probably at least 6 gigs), probably let the frames render overnight

Make the buildings low poly. If it's going to be in the background, you can blur the buildings out thus not having to use high resolution models. This will result in quicker rendering time. And yes, just import your buildings from leoCAD to Cinema 4D.

Your models are rather soft currently. I would advise making a reflective/glossy material to go with the current diffuse. No need to over do it, just a little bit of reflection will go a long way. Other than that, you're fine as is.

Like JP said, if it's only going to be in the background, and blurred out by DoF, you don't need anything impressive. You could either model it in Leocad, or you could just use cubes, and color them how you want them. If that makes sense.

GHB - As others have said, definitely position the camera in a better place.

Speck - I quite like the image. And I don't know if you've ever checked this out, but it might help. And yes, it is referring to the internal renderer, but the settings can be recreated in cycles, I believe.
