For your brick modelling on Mac:

Blender is available for Mac and I'm sure there's a Ldraw importer plugin for the Mac Blender somewhere.

Re: The CGI Thread

Well, i'm figuring out LDraw, but i can't seem to find a download for Blender, none of them work...
Also, your link is outdated, I had to go back to the main page and go to the new page from there... mini/tongue

What do you mean by an Ldraw importer plugin?

Re: The CGI Thread

You can't import Ldraw models directly into Blender without a plugin that supports ldraw formats.

Re: The CGI Thread

My experience with the LDraw plugin for Blender has been terrible; mostly because I could never install the darn thing. What I do is I find the piece I want in Bricksmith (LDraw for Mac, pretty much), open that piece up in LDView, export is as a 3DS shape, and in some cases, import it straight into Blender. When that doesn't work, then I import the 3DS shape into Wings3D 1.2, export it as a Wavefront file (.obj). Then I import that into Blender, and start fixing the mesh.

A bit lengthy of a process, but it works.

Re: The CGI Thread

Lengthy and a waste of time.  Why isn't it installing for you?

Re: The CGI Thread

I finally got the download to work, and yes, I use Bricksmith with the LDraw Parts List.  But I need a plugin to get it into blender, which poses the question, what file type do I want it in?

Started working on it yesterday, since the LeoCAD parts are just awkward

Re: The CGI Thread

Yeah, don't use LeoCAD's fig generator, use MLCAD's.  You can still import the current official and unofficial parts into LeoCAD, though.

Re: The CGI Thread

I'm completely new to CGI, could you tell me what programs I need, and what to read, to get results like VN?
So Greenscreen, what else?

Blender?

Re: The CGI Thread

And a program to put it all together, such as After Effects.

Re: The CGI Thread

Uh oh, Littlebrick's not going to be happy about that. He asked in chat if I had gotten the minifig, so that he could take down the link to it. I asked, and he said that for the moment he doesn't want anyone to post tests or stuff with it.

Re: The CGI Thread

It fine with me if you continue to do test animations, but yeah, I'd like to keep any test videos to the SUPER forums right now.

I downloaded the parts library from Ldraw, but I can't seem to open any of the parts. Which program do I need to work with these parts?

Re: The CGI Thread

Are you using MLCAD or LeoCAD?  The Parts have to be imported into its proper parts folder.  Do that first before updating the parts list in MLCAD or importing the pieces in LeoCAD's parts manager.

Re: The CGI Thread

Well I have a Mac so these programs aren't available, I do have Blender. I'm not sure, can you import the parts into blender directly?

Re: The CGI Thread

I don't think you can.  What you need to do is figure out where your parts folder is.  For PC users, once you install Ldraw, there'll be an Ldraw folder on your computer and within it are your modeling applications and two parts folder.  The modeling applications (such as Ldraw, LeoCAD, and BrickSmith) are the ones that read in your parts and let you build your models.  It's just like LDD if you've used that.
