Re: The CGI Thread

I have taken a course on CAD and do own Pro/DESKTOP so I'm not a total newbie to the 3D modeling world.

I modeled this is Pro/DESKTOP last night. I don't have the exact dimensions of the real thing but it's supposed to resemble the ejected cartridge of a .45 ACP round.

That's exactly what I did, every time it just shows a blank box with a question mark in it. The pictures aren't private either. Maybe flickr's just having a bad day.

Here's something from the upcoming Squad 42 -

And here's something from an unfinished project about a year ago, experimenting with trying to make a 'space worm' out of lego -

Re: The CGI Thread

Those are good GPP, they just look a bit too "soft", if you know what I mean, from the ambience. Maybe bring the samples down a lot, and make the pieces have specularity.

That wasn't very helpful roRyL. Or very nice, for that matter.

Instead, I'd link him to this page.

Hey roRyl, thanks for the link! Since you're such an expert on CGI yourself, why not do a demonstration?

Its actually a CAD program. It won't produce anything close to cinematic such as the above. But it's really good for design.

Re: The CGI Thread

We have a question: When we render our CGI animations in Carrara, the quality very often seems below average. mini/confused  Is there a way to make the quality of your rendering increase (even if it takes more time)?

What do you mean by below average in quality?  In the Raytracing section, do you have all the checkboxes checked and antialiasing set to Best or Good?

Occasionally for final renderings, you want to enable Sky Light and Indirect Light (pick Ambient Occlusion).

If you have all that enabled and you still feel the quality is below average, then it's your lighting and shaders.

Re: The CGI Thread

I'm too incredibly stupid and lazy to bother with CGI. Yay for my first post here. mini/blankexpression

Re: The CGI Thread

I am not that good at CGI, maya 8.5 is hard to use.

What's the point of making brick models if your little brother destroys them?

Maya 8.5? A great piece of kit. I use it as well, I've made some cool stuff with it in the past. Most of it I never finished mini/lol One day I'll use it to do some CGI for one of my brickfilms... mini/confused

But first I need a decent green screen
