Topic: Copyright?

Hello,
If I put this on all my new videos,
will I be nailed for copyright?
And if (IF) I become a partner,
will I be able to generate money from films with this intro on them.

Kind Regards,
-Kevin mini/wink

Re: Copyright?

Maybe, But why?
First of: Are there Any And I mean Any Form of Copyrighted Material?
Second: The soundtrack you're using in the Intro, Is that Copyright Free?
You should be able to become a Partner, With copyrighted material on, You just can't afford any money by them.
I Don't know what'll happen, if you have any copyrighted material on your channel, Before signing up the Parther-Application; -But you should be able to upload Copyrighted afterwods.
You just can't get any money from the video.

The topic pertains to copyrights in his video, which, in turn, is filmmaking.

Darkness cannot be destroyed. It can only be channelled.

Re: Copyright?

Of course the Metal Gear Solid theme is copyrighted.

That means you can't really use it on a YouTube video, but because of fair use, you can use it as long as you write what the song is and (if applicable) who it was by in the credits or video description.

And no, you cannot (legally) make money out of it without asking permission from the copyright holder first.

Re: Copyright?

I just got an unsolicited email from YouTube to join their adsense scheme. For my AGM 2007 film. Some of my other movies have copyright stuff in them so I can't use them. I thought I'd get hit on 'The Sock' because I used a short sample of Ray Stevens 'The Streaker' now on my account it says, some of your videos may contain copyright material, view them here'

WMG who own the rights of Ray Stevens 'The Streaker' have decided not to go after me for copyright breach, instead they have adopted a very sensible approach of putting an advert & link on my film to the track on itunes so people can buy it. In other words they are happy for me to promote their track and possible gain them revenue.

This was all done automatically, no one spoke to me, no one threatened me re breach of copyright. The info on YouTube says that I need to check back from time to time to see if WMG have changed their policy.

But this seems like a really sensible way to deal with the situation. I am not allowed to use 'The Sock' as one of my adsense films, so I earn no money from it, yet I may help the copyright owners to make money from my film. This seems reasonable enough.

I wish all big media companies adopted the same idea were YT is concerned.

However I will ensure that I do not use copyright music in future, why would I want to miss out on potential money making for me. :-)

Re: Copyright?

Yeah, WMG stopped removing videos recently. There are loads of record labels who have signed up to the 'put adverts next to videos' scheme now (and YouTube say that the automatic bots scan 100 years' worth of video per day).

Re: Copyright?

So, could I risk it?
And what about the sound effects.
They are also from MGS.
One another question.
Does Rsteenoven make money from his films with
his intro on them?
Because he uses the song Tear Drop on Fire.

Re: Copyright?

I don't think he has adverts on those videos.

Still, if you put adverts on a video which has music in it that you did not get permission to make profit from, then it's actually illegal.

Re: Copyright?

So should I contact YouTube and ask for some sort of agreement?

Re: Copyright?

I'd say you should create your films how you'd like them to be instead of worrying about what to do to become a YouTube-partner the fastest. But that's just my opinion.

Re: Copyright?

I stopped putting my intro on my films so that I could generate money on them.

In other words, no, I am not making any money on the films with intro unfortunately.

Re: Copyright?

Wait a second,
What if I got someone to compose music,
that sounded some what like this for the first 10 seconds
and the rest of the song be completely different.
Would I get away with that?

Re: Copyright?

Double Post:

Here, would this be alright?
I changed the music but it still has the MGS sound effects.
Music is from incompetech.
Can I generate money from this.

Re: Copyright?

You can't use MGS sound effects.

Re: Copyright?

Seriously?

Re: Copyright?

YES SERIOUSLY. D:

Re: Copyright?

Yes, seriously.

Why YouTube? YouTube don't own the music and they have nothing to do with the record label, so they won't be able to help you.
