Topic: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

Like, what did you start out doing? ^^

I first started out doing Music videos, then random live action shorts, then brickfilming. I also do live action short films now. Yourself?

I put plastic toy dinosaurs on wires, waved them around in front of the camera in my yard / house, and voiced them off-camera for my first video made for a 2nd grade school project, Super Iguanodon.

Having enjoyed creating Super Iguanodon, I would later follow it with the aptly named sequel, Super Iguanodon 2.

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

I didn't really have any filmmaking interests before I started brickfilming.

Don't be fooled, my avatar is a facade of conformity.

Wow, that's pretty interesting. I never really could use a camera when I was younger. x) My parents wouldn't let me. But I finally did get a camera of my own in 2007, but it was a web cam. Off of that, I made "Music videos" by randomly dancing in front of it with a friend, and lip singing the song. xD Good times...

Do you still have Super Iguanodon, or is it lost in time?

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

I think there's an old VHS tape of it somewhere.

I also made some stuff with a program called 3D Movie Maker around the same time and later.  It was fun software.  I started doing little stop-motion clips with LEGO in 2nd grade as well, though, probably around the same time I made "Super Iguanodon," though I didn't really make a complete brickfilm with a story and such until I got LEGO studios a few years later.

I see. I never heard of that software before, but it sounds neat.  I started doing little brickfilms with my web camera late 2007, but I can still recall my very first stop motion...it was with Star Wars PEZ people. xD Frames per second where most likely 4 or 5 or something.

So were you always interested in filmmaking or animation as a career, or is it only a hobby you like doing?

I filmed myself playing with my Batman dolls. I didn't even attempt at doing animation, my hands were all over the screen.

I think it was when I was about 8 years old. It was sometime before Lego Studios was released. The sets were drawings that I drew myself and then put the characters in front of it. Same for the props, except for the ones I had. Like the batmobile. I can't recall the story anymore, but I remember that I used some creative techniques to do effects. In one shot, I wanted to have Batman jump and I managed to keep my hands outside the frame. I attached a small wire to the doll, overexposed the set a bit and then filmed in front of a white background, so wire was practically invisible. I wasn't able to do editing, this was recorded immediatly on VHS so for the titles I came up with a simple idea. I wrote them in MS Word, printed them and then pasted them onto my closet and then I tilted the camera from top to bottom over the titles, so I looked like the credits were actually scrolling on screen.
I don't know if I still have the original VHS, I haven't watched at my old VHS's for ages. I think I'll go and have a look when I'm back home.

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

@Infurno:

Well that's very interesting. And it actually sounds like something I would watch. x) For my first Lego videos, I drew a background as well...and I didn't use any platform to make them walk, just my desk surface, which I made a "ground" for. I recall wanting to make a ship (Jedi Starfighter) take off...so I tied fishing wire to it to make it do the trick. Looked pretty good at the time. But that was only about 2 years ago. x) I am fairly new to animation, I guess.

What you did sounds pretty creative! mini/bigsmile

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idNuwbp8Cb4 was the first film I ever made with my friends. After that I started making videos about my dog, with xfiles music in the background, then I created gameplay videos. Then I moved onto stop motion with lego.

I took clips of my siblings and I doing weird things, sped it up, gave it a somewhat sensible title and played it to my hearts content. mini/lol

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

Power Rangers movie with my friends it sucked olol.

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

I made stuff with my dad while we were in the US, about toy animals at a near by park when I was like 4-5. And I voiced it all with an over the top Steve Irwin impression.

"Oh crikey! a wild plastic tiger, better stay back dad!"

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

I used Paint.net to make a cool yet really bad, 2-D animation, I have it somewhere.... If I  find it, you'll see it

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

Stop-motion animations were actually my first videos. I had an analog video camera, and would take frames by recording, then stopping, then recording again. Better than most the stuff on YouTube.

Re: What was the first kind of film you made before brickfilming?

In about 2006, Before i started Brickfilming, i made 'Live-action-Stuff'.
It was more likely a serie. Every day, i hosted a little 2 minutes long serie at my old Website.
It really stinked. Me and my Friend was 'Trying' to be serious, But it always turned out, in the last 20 Seconds to:
''I loove my Baaarrrtthhh''.
The show did never get popular, as you can assume.
