Re: The Citizen of the Year

Just watched it for the first time...

And...

AND...

I didn't like it all that much. Nevertheless I did like the classic-brickfilm feel it had to it, and I thought it was well made.

Into the darkness once more. I walk into the unknown. To a far better life than I've ever known.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

See, I like it. It's a good film. i just don't think it's everything that it's cracked up to be.

You guys will grow on it. I plants a seed in your heart that takes 1-5 months to grow...

AND IT GROWS INTO A GIANT VENUS FLY TRAP!!1!

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

I love how you guys think that by hating TCOTY it's going to make us stop praising it.

I don't HATE TCOTY. It definitely makes my list of favorites. But having it's own online game? Seriously?

It is me.

I am the Citizen of the Year.

Review on The BiM Page by Shale wrote:

Well, let me tell you. This film is something else. It reaches into you, and touches you in places you didn't know you had. It starts with the heart. I don't mean that nasty blood-pumping organ, no sirree. I'm talkin' about the place your mother resides. I'm talking about the happy thoughts. I'm talking about that place that lights up inside of you when you hear a kind word. I'm talking about that part of you that loves. Because that's what COTY does, kiddies. It not only gives you love, but compels and allows you to love it back. Love is not a one-way street with COTY, everybody, no, it most certainly is not. It's a two-way street, congested with cartloads of pure AFFECTION travelling to either side.
You may think that sounds like a lotta hooey. You may also think babies laughing is a small thing. You may also think when a man and a woman love each other very much, they should cut it out. Well let me tell you something, you cold-hearted cynics. There's enough pain and strife in this world without you refusing to give a REAL brickfilm a chance. Does it have a white expanses? No. Does it have two guys named Jim and something else that no one gives a hoot about? No! Does it feature walk cycles by rich kids trained in a smelly cave over a span of some decades in the art of animation by Shaolin monks? Hell no!
What it DOES have is a little hard to describe, aside from the obvious (touching story, brilliant script, awesome characters, and playful execution - we know of these already). It touches that special place, lifts you up, makes you go higher, higher, until the clouds are but a carpet at your feet, your only companion the sweet sweet whisper of the wind, like a long-lost lover comforting you with the greatest and most eloquent pillow-talk you're ever going to have enter your earhole.
Look, Frankenstein made kids weep out of fear. I never had that reaction with that film. I had it with COTY. Why? Because I was afraid. I was afraid the power would be cut to my house and I'd never be able to see it again. But I didn't weep for long (well, I did, but those later tears were born of joy). Because COTY reached out and comforted me. I knew even if the power were cut to my house, I'd be alright. Because COTY had already changed my life. From that day forward, I was no longer a boy watching LEGO movies. I was a man who had seen Great Things.
Everyone who sees it is touched. Maybe to some it means more than others. Maybe some deny its significance. I dunno why they profess not to like good things. That's for their therapist to find out. All I know is that it cured my leprosy, helped me ask out that 'special girl' (I think we all know one of those, fellas), and GOT me that sports scholarship. So watch The Citizen of the Year today, kiddos. See what it can do for you.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

I watched it the other day, it was a good film, reminded me of a leftfield studios film, but I still like a few other films better, when are we gonna have a celebration for those films?

When they start curing leprousy.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

It was pretty good, I will definately say I was entertained. I did see a couple of camera bumps, and a lot of light flicker. Animation was great though, and the storyline was pretty good. I am glad I watched this one! 9.3/10

This film is to good to sit so far back on the films forum, I think its time for some of our newer members to get a taste of TCOTY!

Also, the parrots, classic. mini/XD

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Haha xD
I was actually planning on giving this a serious bump once I got the time to sit sown and say something about this film in a few days.

So, when I first watched this, I was sort of one of those people who didn't love it, and didn't understand the craze. But now that I've seen this a few times, it's really starting to grow on me. Evey day I seem to love the Citizen of the Year more than the day before. The homeless man is such an amusing character, and I really love the line "So... how's the parrot?" which I quoted about five times yesterday. I enjoy the classic look of this film, and the main characters face.

I still don't consider this the greatest brickfilm ever, but it still is a really, really good one. mini/smile

This has inspired me to have multiple references in my Batman film.

BTW, what ever happened to Watson? It seems as though he doesn't brickfilm anymore. Which is a pity, as I'm sure if he went on making more movies, he could have created a master piece to blow this away.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

He would develop a cult following and take over the earth with an army of crazed nerds.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Alright, I don't know what you guys were thinking but this is the most overhyped brickfilm I have ever seen. The film is ok but a far cry from the masterpiece everyone makes this out to be. The animation is choppy, I guess around 12 fps, which isn't my forte and there are no remarkable animation techniques like easing in and out. The story is also ok, with the bum being the most interesting character. I liked the voice acting tho.

If this is the highest standard, by which brickfilms are judged, I am afraid most brickfilms are poorly made.
