Well, it is Septemberfest, and it is pretty much the biggest holiday on BiM, so why not?

Has there ever been a better time? With the global economic crisis, terrorists at our doorsteps, global warming, devastating oil spills, lions, tigers and bears, it falls to us all to examine the things that make us what we are. Freedom, yes. Democracy, yes. Capitalism, yes. But above all that, it is our willingness, our ineluctable duty, to stand together as one and appreciate the subtle nuances, the carefully constructed metaphors, and the biting satire of this one pinnacle of the brickfilming art.

Plus, you know, a guy slips in some other guy's pee.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

I can understand why the film is loved so much, but I don't understand the scoring. For instance, why is the animation score 9.2? Sound 10? The sound animation are not worthy of that score, the story is, and thats why this film is very good. That makes the film what it is, but it doesn't automatically improve the animation and sound.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

I think it's only temporary, if you go to the directory page you'll notice there's a heap of extremely positive reviews that I don't think were there before Septemberfest.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Eh, I'd give it a 7/10.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

The only staff who rated the film in 2010 was NTXManiac, due to the numbers it might be possible the rating was not unbiased.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Indeed, I wasn't a reviewer last Septemberfest, so I found it necessary to contribute this time around. mini/bigsmile

I agree with you, it was good, I can grant you that, but it wasn't this god of brickfilming trash.

Anyway great brickfilm I could watch this over and over again.

Fortunately, it's not necessary.  The beauty of TCOTY is that a single viewing per year will result in a euphoric, TCOTY-induced high that lasts a full year.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

I will admit after I watched it again, there is some very clever writing in this that I missed before.

But I still prefer The Magic Portal.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Personally, I don't understand why this film is like the "Citizen Kane" of Brickfilms. I liked it, but I think it is a little too overrated.
(just like the actual Citizen Kane)

Re: The Citizen of the Year

To be fair, there are a few people out there who think 'Citizen Kane' is overrated. In fact, with every successful movie there is going to be some people who think it is undeserving of its fame. Its life. Its just some have more of one group than the other - and this is a great example.

I swear this is the last I shall ever say on this movie, then I shall let everyone else celebrate this as they please without spoiling there fun (as long as there are no 'fixes')

Technically, the movie, for the time, is average. But....its taken me a while to admit it......the writing is really, really good. I'm not exaggerating. The way we (or at least I) feel sympathy for the protagonist and hate for antagonist is something I have never felt in a Brickfilm. And the humour is carefully and masterfully executed. Its not as floor-rollingly funny as many other Brickfilms but its not trying to be that.

And the voice acting isn't bad. Overall, I enjoy watching it. If you ignore the huge ego, the orgasmic fanbase (which I really dont mind but some people hate) and moderators acting like pricks (although, this year they have showed some self-restraint) you will enjoy it. Its not my favourite - I prefer many other Brickfilms, but for me its worth a watch.

Re: The Citizen of the Year

Yes Max!  That's the same way I feel about it.  I totally agree that this film was well written.  I felt so bad for the protagonist.  At the end, I wanted to beat up that citizen of the year guy.  This film has given me an idea for my hopefully to be made Septemberfest film.  No, it isn't going to be what you think (whatever that is mini/tongue )

Re: The Citizen of the Year

I decided to drop in the Releases forum and look at what the community has been creating recently, and what luck - this was placed prominently on the first page! Watching The Citizen of the Year once more for the first time again, I was quickly satiated. I feel I don't need to see another brickfilm for a long while... perhaps a whole year!

Truly September is a month for miracles. Ba de ya!

Mine, too! I wonder how this film practically got it's own cult in the first place...
