Topic: Lego CGI animation Test

I have been working on my project "The Year 2222" for almost 2 years now. I titled it to "Fercium: Genetic Brothers". This is a brickfilm which should be mostly done with CG. Most of the CG animation is now done and in queue of rendering.

I decided to release some small tests I have made for this movie and get a little feedback for these.

Note: I don't want to spoil any part of the movie, so these tests and shots are non related to the movie and generally purposed on the realism of rendering.

Also I give credit to rioforce. My minifig models are based on his good modeling skills.

The animation was good. I especially liked the flip in the Tron test. The models themselves are good, but the textures shouldn't be so reflective. I noticed this in your second test. I think also increasing some render settings would work to get rid of the grain in the rendered images.

Holy cow dude that was something! I personally thought those were fantastic. Being a huge Tron fan I loved the first one especially and the second one was good as well. I think the materials could do some patching up but other than that way to go. You're far ahead of my CGI skills.

These look nice. Nice models and good use of DOF, etc. The materials are definitely excessively reflective, as others have mentioned. I also feel the walk cycle is stilted, it feels like the character pauses unnaturally between each step.

They were both really, really good but the first one had too much camera shake, I think.:)

Yeah I noticed it too after I rendered it, but its a test so I was really not going to waste my time reanimating it.

Not bad at all! I really liked the the Tron inspired clip. My only problems with it was the slightly excessive and unnatural feeling camera shake, and the "fleshy" material on the head of the helmet-less guy. I can't put my finger on exactly what is wrong with it though. It may simply be to dull. The frames are a bit on the noisy side also, but I know how long Cycles can take to clean that up, so whatever. Pretty decent animation also. Not bad at all.

If you have any experience with cycles nodes then I am sure you understand what you are about to read.

The reason why the head may seem a little messed up is because I made this clip actually long time ago, when I was trying to achieve photorealistic lego plastic material. I blended in some SSS (Subsurface Scattering) for light colored parts. But when I finished, I also realized the result was kind of bad and unnatural. Also SSS gives cycles a lot more pressure, so rendering gives excessively more noisy result and then you can imagine how much time it takes per frame to clean up the whole noise. 3h-5h?
