Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

Just posted a public news update about the campaign. Thank you everyone who has supported us thus far!

If we raise enough money, we'll go to the UK and interview Chris Salt (0ldscratch / Buxton) and hopefully some others.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

If you come to the UK, can you let me know so I can come meet you guys?

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

Definitely. Though for budget reasons it might be just me. Doug and Nathan aren't on the production crew, and Zach is on production crew for the California portion.

The UK thing won't happen at all unless we raise $13.5k. After the 100% dropoff in new backers this past three days, I'm not terribly optimistic. Really looking for new ways to push this out to a larger audience. The BiM community did a great job of giving us a huge initial boost, but we're struggling to expand even a little bit beyond that. I've contacted dozens of AFOL blogs, but they don't seem interested.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

This is kind of a jerk-y question here, and I'm sure it wont help my chances of getting un-ban from the chat, but in the event that the kickstarter doesn't get fully funded, does everyone still get a DVD and a keychain?

The guy who got banned more times than DiCaprio said "f***" in The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

It's a fair question...

The Kickstarter payments won't be withdrawn if we don't meet the goal. However, I still want to produce the DVD, so we'll probably take pre-orders over again. The keychain I'm not sure about.

I am pretty confident we'll scrape together enough money to meet the goal. Worst case scenario, I'll have to majorly cut the budget and have friends loan some money to make sure the Kickstarter gets topped off. I just want to make sure we're trying everything we can to get the word out so we can make the best film possible.

Sounds great, I'm glad that you have a backup plan. I've been trying to spread the news to people, but nobody has heard of brickfilming before, so it's kind of hard...

Oh yeah, I have seen one of those before.

Its funny though, because this is actually pretty true. I have been trying to think of people to tell about the project, but I don't want any of them to know that I sit in a dark room taking pictures of plastic toys, nor do I want to have to take the time to explain it to them. Although, I am sure there are other brickfilmers that we can reach out to still.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

I don't talk about it a lot, but most people I've ever talked to about it (including FEMALES) seem to think it's pretty cool.

Sméagol! You speak as if the fairer sex are uneducated in the ways of brickfilming! Have you forgotten our very own Brick7? Or do you still have 'Nam flashbacks to all those terrifying creatures discussed about in the Chat?

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

I was referring to the larger world, not this community. As in, women are not scared off by the knowledge that one makes LEGO movies. They are scared off by a wide variety of other qualities.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

I too noticed that the funding stalled.
I've shared it around all I can, but there has to be more that we can do.

Are there any stop-motion/film making forums or blogs that may be interested?
If we can't appeal to the Lego guys, perhaps we should go at it from a different angle.

I've contacted every relevant non-LEGO blog I can find. A few of the smaller ones have run articles. Not a large list though. I don't know how to find a large number of relevant sites.

mini/confused

Well, ain't this a kick in the teeth.
I thought any and all Lego-ish blogs/websites would be more than happy to spread the word about a Lego-related hobby.

Any other alternative sites or filmy sites that we haven't reached yet? (ain't it cool news, etc.)
What about documentary websites?
Or independent film sites? (IFC, Sundance, etc.)

EDIT….
What about Wired Magazine?
You know, the magazine that had this little article….

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

The sorts of sites you've listed don't accept tips/suggestions (especially not ones asking for money) because they're huge publications.

Please

Btw have you tried Eurobricks? I think it'd be good to focus on, especially since it has such a massive audience.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

Eurobricks hasn't been responsive so far. There's a thread in their forum about the film but we don't have a direct contact to get on their news page.

Re: Bricks in Motion: The Documentary Kickstarter is now LIVE!

Hmm, we still have plenty of time. Kinda like Pritchard said, what if we tried making a different angle or approach? Possibly trying to get it on more "non-brickfilm" indie film sites? Like www.rodypolis.com? I dunno, it's just a suggestion.
