So I came across this photo posted by a Facebook friend.
This could quite possibly be the best news I've heard from LEGO since the rumour of the return of the UCS Falcon.
It seems to be a pretty strong rumour, and almost a confirmation, with someone posting a set list over at Eurobricks. The rumoured set list seems to match up well with the picture.
It's photoshopped. I can spot it anywhere. I saw the original non-photoshopped version of the stand (it was a drawing of a stand, and it was officially LEGO), and it was originally a Hero Factory stand without anything on it. I compared it to other stands that look like it, and the other stands never had specific sets on the stands (like they had no box art on the sets, just placeholder blank boxes). Plus, each stand was different. Even if it was about the same size, something was always different. Also, the angle of the LEGO Logo doesn't match the angle of the shelf. I actually overlayed the original stand in photoshop to this stand, and it was the exact same one. The rumors are most likely false. I heard that LEGO asked the people to remove the pictures as soon as possible. Well, LEGO wouldn't do that. If it was truly confidential, they wouldn't ask them to, they would tell them to.
Does this look familiar? 
This picture says "Preliminary Image" on it. They wouldn't print preliminary images in ordering catalogs. Case closed.

LEGO Bionicle 70790 Lord of Skull Spidersexoforce.ru has a history of accurately leaking set names or pics. Sounds like we are in fact getting the Toa Mata, or at least characters named after them.
I'm not entirely sure about that, Rioforce. This popped up the other day. It fits with the set names, and seems pretty plausible in terms of content and execution (aside from a few tiny dodgy bits). There's a chance (a chance) this could be real.
I hope you don't mind, Kieren, but I'd like to take this opportunity to make an official BIONICLE discussion thread, whether the line is coming back or not. It's my number one fandom and I'd be interested to see if anyone else here is a fan too.
A few websites have defiantly confirmed a Bionicle comeback.
It's likely, but not confirmed, and I'm taking everything with several grains of salt for now.
It looks a lot like source matrial from Lego Retail catalogs, of which I'm privy.
If they do bring them back, I'm not sure where their going to take the story, they did a really all encompassing wrap up when they ended the line.
I've been reading a really good fanfic that's set thousands of years after the 2010 end to BIONICLE. A new story like that could work, though if the set listing is to be believed then the Toa Nuva are returning.
I mean, based on the way things work in that universe, their return hundreds or even thousands of years after the end of the existing story isn't impossible.
Really? How so?
It's a bit surprising to hear this, given that LEGO has never really done anything like this before. (With perhaps the exception of Alpha Team back in 2004, but that doesn't really count.) Then again, given that there seems to be quite a bit of (perhaps inevitable) hate surrounding Hero Factory, so maybe it isn't that surprising.
I do think there's quite a bit of material left to go on if LEGO is in fact bringing it back. The world of BIONICLE extends quite a bit beyond the storylines of the sets, and there are plenty of locations and characters that haven't been officially made before (Tren Krom, for example--though I doubt it would actually be possible to make a set of him...). Plus, the LEGO-run website for BIONICLE lore (I think it was something like Bioniclestory.com) was kept running for some time even after the theme itself was discontinued. And even if there isn't enough existing material, they could always just invent new stuff.
It would be rather nice to see it return--although I never got that many BIONICLE sets, and probably wouldn't buy any this time round (since I only tend to buy sets for their parts these days), it would give me a nice warm nostalgic feeling seeing it back. Especially since I feel LEGO has gone downhill a fair bit recently... or maybe I'm just getting old. 
Whether it comes back or not, I'm going to do a couple of BIONICLE brickfilms soon, though set-building is already proving painful in the brain.
I was wondering why there aren't more Bionicla/ Hero Factory/ COnstraction films? And I'm surprised that Lego Friends hasn't been bringing girls into Brickfilming. I wrote in my guide to Brickfilming about such themes, and Fabuland, Homemaker, and films with brick-built characters.
I don't wont to burst anyone's happiness about the return of Bionicle but I do have to ask if this may actually be detrimental to the theme. Ninjago was my favorite Lego theme, I loved the return of ninja to Lego and I laved the story and TV show that went with it. And yes I was kind of sad when the "Finale Battle" sets came out, but I was also satisfied with how it ended and glad the good guys won in the end. Then the news of the reboot broke out and I went crazy! Then the pictures of the sets came out I was not as excited as I was but still optimistic, then the show came out and I was shocked at how bad the story and threat was. Now I still love the past three years of Ninjago but for this new wave I cry. I say all that to say that I hope the same does not happen to Bionicle, BUT IT COULD.
Somewhat related: I've just started writing for a Bionicle webseries called MATA! There are 12 episodes out already that I had nothing to do with, but several of the upcoming episodes were either wholly or in part written by me. That's probably why I've been posting here a bit less than usual, as I've been working on three scripts in the last couple of days.
No idea when the new episodes will be out, but I'll keep you posted!
I think the continuation of ninjago was due to popular demand. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You are right, but in a way you could say the same thing about Bionicle's return? Now yes there has not been a huge uprising like when we thought Minjago was over but why are they not creating a new property instead of returning to a theme that has been dead for the past 4 years and that lasted 9 years. I think it's is still because the fans want it to come back and and that's why they are going in this direction. Now I didn't follow the story that well so I can't really comment on how it ended in the comics, but from what I rember reading I did see where they did leave some room for a continuation of the story. I can't find that comic right now so I'm not for shure. I'm I right in saying that?

You just described my entire experience with Star Wars episodes 1,2 & 3 (though they did improve admittedly).
There was room for a continuation, but it had a pretty definitive end.
Makuta gets a moon scraped against the back of his head and dies, Spherus Magna is reformed, Matoran and Agori become one society, Mata Nui goes to sleep after using the last of his power, combined with the Mask of Life, to bring life back to the Bara Magna desert, and Tahu's like "now we make our own destiny".
Greg's confirmed that if he'd had the time, the next storyline would have followed Takanuva as he tried to stop a civil war between the Great Beings. The few web serials released after the official 'end' of BIONICLE started to set this story up, with a big reveal that one of the 2006 Matoran, a guy called Velika, was a Great Being all along and starts going on a killing spree, whilst framing Toa Lesovikk.
