Kill Bill is full of quotes (sometimes really brash) from the films of Sonny Chiba, Bruce Lee, Meiko Kaji, or the asian action cinema in general. If you know the films, you can see where Tarantino took "his ideas" from.
The films behind Death Proof only a few fans of the american and european exploitation film of the 60s/70s know. It's not so easy to mention them, but he always helps you a bit (for example Vanishing Point).

I love his films, I just don't like the terminus "genius", which implicates that he fell from the sky. He just watched hundreds of strange films, which he now puts together. For me a part of art is always copying, so it's nothing bad or evil. Most people just never admit it.
