read this, it'll help you A LOT

Come on, man, you've been a BiM member long enough to know that you're not supposed to post tests in releases. This is for completed films.
It's not really that good. The effects just look like they were strangely pasted upon the video and don't really fit at all.
I think that the entire thing would have gone over better if you had the effects done in shot, or at least partially in shot.
Shining a LED light onto the set would easily have added some more realistic lighting which would have greatly helped any effects if added. In the end it might be better to simply animate a little bit of blue fire around the figure with trans-blue bricks.
No offense, but I was able to create this effect with Sony Vegas 9 back in 2008.
Most effects like this could be created in Sony Vegas. It looks like you're just using stock footage and overlaying it into the shot.
After Effects has WAAAAY more potential. Especially with what you've just shown, it's saying you don't even want to try and use the tools in AE.
Always great to get feedback from two solid brickfilmers like you two.
First off this was my son who did this test and for someone who just started
teaching himself in one night not to bad.
But he agrees there is so much more to do with AE, this was more of a rushed test which I had him do.
My apologies Squid I was not thinking when I posted earlier.
And many thanks for taking the time to post the manual for me Carroll.
Like I always say there is no such thing as bad criticism.
