Agreed, though I knew it was a long shot from the beginning. A part of me still wishes for Leo to have won the award, but I knew that wasn't happening either.

I definitely feel like the script of Dallas Buyers Club gave McConaughey a lot more material to work with than Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave. But then, I found the latter film underwhelming in pretty much every way.

I liked Slave a whole lot more than Dallas, can't really determine why. The latter's script was superb, but I still think the acting in Slave was better (Not including McConaughey or Leto).

Glad Frozen won best animated film, if a different animation had won I would've puked (With the exception of The Wind Rises, which I haven't seen). Also glad that "Let It Go" won best song.

Surprised to see that Gravity won so many awards, including best director. While I'm not denoting the job Cuaron did, I do think some other directors were more deserving of that award.

Did the Hobbit win anything? Nope.
Did Pacific Rim win anything? Nope.
Did any of the superhero films win anything? Nope.
Did any film that I've even seen win anything? Nope.
Ok, I officially don't care. mini/eh

Oh, well, Cate Blanchett did win something...So maybe a teenty-tiny bit of care has been revived. Maybe.
Not that I've ever put much weight in the Oscars anyway, but it's annoying to see only a handful of the films I watched make it to even the nomination stage. The choices seem a bit random sometimes too. Still, I'm just hoping TaBa gets something next year.

Well, Prithchard did you like Gravity?

Re: OSCARS 2014

I find the Oscars boring. Only 'worthy' films win awards, as the panel is a bunch of old fogeys from the era of the Lumiere brothers. I'm not saying they're not good critics, but maybe they're out of touch with modern Hollywood cinema.

Also, how did Gravity win 7 awards when all I've heard about it is that it's the most disappointing movie of 2013? I haven't seen it myself, but not one person I know who's seen it says it was worth the £7 to £9 their cinema ticket cost.

Re: OSCARS 2014

Like I said above, I didn't see Gravity.
Might later to see what all the fuss is about, but the trailers and clips just don't appeal to me.

Re: OSCARS 2014

I saw almost nothing nominated, so I'm not necessarily disappointed with any of these results very much.

Though, I am very pleased that the man who directed my very favourite Harry Potter film (and one of my favourite films of all) won something.

I most want to see Gravity and Frozen.  I didn't watch the ceremony specifically to avoid seeing anything from Frozen or Gravity to spoil them.

Re: OSCARS 2014

I love special affects so gravity was awesome to me. Its worth watch twice. (one to admire affects)  mini/lol

I really want to see it since it's a no sound in space film I think.  I really have been wanting to see more movies like that, because it's really cool to me.

You're probably the first person I've heard to have not seen either Gravity or Frozen. Of course, I haven't seen The LEGO Movie either, so I guess I'm just as uncultured.

On a serious note, those two are pretty good films; definitely worth the watch.

Re: OSCARS 2014

The only Best Picture nominee I've seen thus far is Captain Phillips, and that didn't win anything last night. I also came pretty close to seeing Gravity, too. But, that's another story... mini/blankexpression

The Academy Awards can be a little ignorant, and a little corrupt. But, I mainly just enjoy seeing all the films and actors and filmmakers in one place. I think it's pretty cool...

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: OSCARS 2014

I saw most of the films nominated and while I don't neccessarily agree personally what should have won, I found myself surprisingly agreeing with a lot of their choices this year.

I made a list of who I thought would win in each category and I got 21/24 correct - which just shows how predictable the awards have become mini/wink

Thats weird cause it has a 97% on rottentomatoes and it's one of my favorite films of the year... also you have to remember most of the awards it won wasn't counting in the movie's overall quality, it doesn't matter how bad the movie was - it can still win Best Visual Effects (which it did)

Which film did you want to win?

It's pretty lame that the don't seem to take it seriously, though, I mean animation can be really great after age six still.

But at least most people liked Frozen a bunch.

To tell the truth. That movie probably had an equal amount of CG backdrop as it did matte paintings; and anyone can make a matte painting background.

I think that Monsters University should have been nominated instead.

It obviously didn't, not much you can do there. You also need to remember, There were a boatload of different animated films that came out this year and a lot of them were a lot better in that area.

I hold an anti-Oscars party annually by enjoying ice cream and watching a mrathon of Robot Chicken.  Also, Planes was a 2013 animated movie.

When you mean "party" you mean alone...right? And it's not a party unless there are 5 or more people. If it's less than that it's just a few friends bickering back and forth complaining about how any of THEIR favorite films didn't win anything or didn't get nominated because there were films made that were a lot better in certain aspects.

You need to remember what makes an animated film stand out amongst the others, and Frozen did a fantastic job at what it did!

Did Pacific Rim get nominated? Nope
Are Superhero movies original anymore? Nope
Did any film that I've even seen win anything (translates to) I'm butt hurt that movies I liked weren't nominated because they were TOTALLY better.

actually it translates to "None of the 5 films I saw were nominated and seeing as I won't give any of the other films that were, a chance - I will not care, screw the oscars."

Re: OSCARS 2014

I do believe Gravity should have won best picture.

Why did Equestria Girls not win Best Animated Film?  Why was it not even nominated?  It goes to show how awful these voters can be.

(No, not really)

Re: OSCARS 2014

I hadn't seen any of the films nominated (except the Hobbit, which I hated) so I had pretty much no opinion on what was going on. Nevertheless I really enjoyed this because Ellen is one of my favorite personalities. Also, Karen O and Ezra Koenig's performance was super duper and that was probably my favorite moment.

Whoever mentioned Oblivion just now, that just reminded me I am super annoyed that wasn't nominated for best soundtrack. I didn't see the movie but the soundtrack was great. Also M83's song with Susanne Sundfør at the end is pretty much my favorite song (better than Let It Go any day)

so yeah this was super fun to watch

Re: OSCARS 2014

My major frustration with this was that Rush was not nominated for anything and Prisoners was nominated for only one award that the film exceeded at, but certainly not the only aspect worthy of an Oscar. But anyway, that's just the nominations.

I loved the show overall. Elllen was quite a hilarious host, probably the best from the last couple of years. I was pleased Gravity won a lot, and I think it would have totally deserved Best Picture, so I wasn't as satisfied with 12 Years a Slave winning it. It was a good film, but not as good as some of the others in the category. Still, it was an awesome evening.
