Topic: 'PITCH' - Sci Fi project [On hold until indefinitely]

So I this idea came into my head a couple of nights ago.  It's basically going to be a claustrophobic Sci Fi/Horror set on either a space station or ship.  Most of the inspiration for this comes from Ridley Scott's 'Alien', but I'm also going to take inspiration from 'Moon', 'Sunshine' and of course '2001: A Space Odyssey'.  I have a few ideas in mind, but I want to avoid certain clichés and to include some sort of original concept.  Pulling it off could prove challenging, and I'll have to figure out the best ways to achieve the effects I want, so it's going to involve various tests, which I'll post here.

It's currently in the very early planning stages, but I thought I would share it anyway, then add to this thread as I develop ideas.  Once I've finalised the script, I'll start a production thread.
I hope to finish it by the time I go off to University, but I've got one other project before then, so it might take a little longer.

Remember, to avoid cliches, never stop on the first or second idea or explanation for something.  Push yourself further and you may surprise yourself with intricate ideas.

Ok, so today I started working out the basic storyline, and where I want the story to go.  I also have a title now (which was suggested by Gareth Pugh/spugesdu).

I'm currently scripting another short film, but will hopefully finish with that tonight, so I can actually begin to write this one.

UPDATE: 3rd June 2013

I've written about 1/3 of the script so far.  It's largely scene setting and character development, but I'm starting to get to the good stuff now.
I'm periodically sending it to Gareth who's sending me suggested improvements, which is proving incredible useful.

I'm going to set up an open casting call for a few of the characters in the next week or two.

UPDATE: 16th June 2013

After a taking a short break in order to film '3...2...1', I'm back scripting the film.
I'm getting to the climax of the film now, things are getting DARK!  The first draft of the script is currently past the half way point now, and should hopefully be finished in the next couple of days.

UPDATE: 19th June 2013

Wrote quite a lot yesterday, bringing it to about two thirds of the way through.  It's currently looking like a cross between 'Alien' and an episode of Doctor Who called 'Silence in the Library' (that should give a pretty good idea of what I'm going for here).  Will update again when I've finished the first draft.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've been having some serious computer trouble the past few months, and it's become really bad over the last two days.  I'm doing a full system reload at the moment, but this won't be a permanent fix, and it will soon become laggy and unusable again.  I will try to keep it alive while I make this film, but there is every chance it could just crash entirely, which would put the film in jeopardy.

Sent the latest version of the script to Gareth, who's going to make improvements (and most likely make a LOT of changes).
The main problem is it's too long, and needs cutting down (plus there's still at least another scene left to write).  I've got to try and film it in about 1-2 months, so a more streamlined story is going to be necessary.

Having just got back from holiday, I'm now returning my attention towards this project.  I'm going to be finishing the script off hopefully this week if all goes to plan.  I'll then have to decide whether I have enough time to finish animation before I go to University in September.  It's highly likely I'll have to cut the script down, but there is still a chance that it may be too big for me to produce in the limited time I have.

Seeing as I'm off to University in a matter of weeks, I have decided to hand the script over to Gareth Pugh (spugesdu) who has expressed interest in producing the film himself.
It all really depends on timing; if I end up having enough time next year, I'll do it myself, but if not, then Gareth might do it.
It's not cancelled quite yet, but you certainly won't be seeing anything of it for a while.

Ok, back from university now and very keen on attempting this.  I'm taking a look at the script now, and looking to cut it down to about 10 minutes (or less).
