Topic: No point watching American TV series

Really annoyed with American TV channels, who just drop series all the time leaving viewers hanging. What is the point in getting invested in the story and the characters when there is never a pay off / conclusion.

Alcatraz - Cancelled
Flash Forward - Cancelled
Fringe - Cancelled
Last Resort - Cancelled
The River - Cancelled
Terra Nova - Cancelled

These show are based on unfolding mysteries, and if the channel drops them then the views never get their conclusions, seriously thinking of not bothing to watch anything America produces now as it will just disappoint.

Arrrrrrrrgggggggggg:mad:

Re: No point watching American TV series

Fringe wasn't cancelled.  It's just on its final season.  It would have been nice to get 22 episodes but 13 is all we can really ask for.  Fringe is probably the only exception to what you've listed here.  Fox could have cancelled it at any point after the 3rd season but kept it going, even after moving it into the Friday Death slot.

Alcatraz - Farfetched premise, which was why it reeled me in.  But it dragged its heels all the way.
Flash Forward - never caught on to it.
Last Resort - never caught on to it.
The River - never caught on to it.
Terra Nova - I liked it, but I guess it was too expensive to keep making

Now why wasn't Blood & Chrome mentioned?  The webisodes look great.  And for a show that's relying on greenscreen, this one does better with its CGI sets compared to V and Once Upon a Time, both of which had very obvious CGI sets.  Either it's the lighting or something, it just screams "We're standing on a greenscreen" whenever such scenes appear.

Re: No point watching American TV series

Fringe is still getting wrapped up, at least. It's a good show and deserves some more seasons, but I think that they're doing pretty well with the episodes which they've been allowed to have. It's too bad it's not getting many viewers. It's my third favorite show. mini/sad

But, yeah, it's pretty sad that so many television shows get canceled when they rely on some gradually unfolding mystery.

They'd better not drop Gravity Falls.

Re: No point watching American TV series

I love Fringe, but I am seriously okay with the creators ending the story and ending it well. I think more TV shows, especially American ones, need to have this in mind.

Re: No point watching American TV series

Ed, Edd, and Eddy-done
The Flintstones-done
Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide-done
The Jeffersons-done

Wow, what is happening with Cartoon Network lately? And, Level Up; it's not even a cartoon! I don't really watch TV, because they got rid of all the good stuff. And, even if they have good shows like The Fairly OddParents, the seasons just keep getting worse. mini/no

back on topic:

NBC (worst television network of all-time) has been close to cancelling 'Community' for years and now it looks like they will. Ending it on a finale 13 episodes long 4th season... that was the best American show that was still on air...

Also shows that were good has now started to suck HARD, mostly How I Met Your Mother which is a show I could go on a rant on longer than all the Harry Potter books put together. The Big Bang Theory has gotten worse and worse since season 4 and now every episode is just a boring waste of time.

The new show "Revolution" looked really promising cause it was made by JJ. Abrams (LOST, Super 8 and Star Trek from 2009) and Eric Kripke (Supernatural) but MY GOD, it's HORRIBLE! Plot holes everywhere and so many gaps in logic, the writers obviously has NO idea how electronics work and the characters are just plain... bad.

Re: No point watching American TV series

Person of Interest.  Another great show.  It's like Batman split in two.  Finch and Reese being the financial resource and the muscle.  Even Gordon is split between Fusco and Carter.  It's definitely not showing signs of cancellation and certainly has its elements of mystery.

Re: No point watching American TV series

Terra Nova sucked

well not really, it wasn't actively offensive as much as it was bland and hella lame

dunno about those other shows

Re: No point watching American TV series

I agree that Terra Nova was a sucky, predictable blunder. On the topic of the original subject though, I wouldn't give up hope on US TV just yet, especially with the on-going seasons of Game of Thrones and Mad Men, which are brilliantly executed and extremely fantastic shows.

Re: No point watching American TV series

I was never interested in TV for years and all that bad stuff that has been very mediocre for years ( Except for king of the hill and kath and Kim AU series). i really agree that shows these days are going off the air and nobody knew what happened.

also Toonami was probably the best for cartoon network and all of the Channels i liked got removed for no reason! , What is going on!

I'm pretty sure the flintstones ended in 66 and its the JETSONS not the Jeffersons and that ended in in 87.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy-done

That was a terrible show that made no sense what so ever...

Re: No point watching American TV series

I also really liked John Doe, and Jericho, but at least they did a couple of made for TV films that wrapped (if some what rushed) Jericho up.

I'm a realist I understand that if a TV Channel is losing money because they have no viewers for a show they have little choice, but I do feel it would be good if they allowed the writers the option to have a double episode to wrap a story up as best they can for the fans. Espically if that show is a running / unfolding mystery series.

I am really enjoying Touch and I hope that gets rounded off properly.

(I obviously have way too much viewing time on my hands lol)

Re: No point watching American TV series

Oh yeah, John Doe.  Never understood why they didn't renew it.

I think what needs to be done is that the American Networks need to consider their international audience.  Y'all get the stale days-old bread while the American audience get first pickings.  And what international shows do Americans see?  None, really.  Most of them end up on Hulu or BBC and non-cable subscribers will never hear about it, with the exception of Doctor Who.

Oh, and Alphas is another good one.  Seems like the ones you like, Si665, are coming from network channels, not cable channels.

Re: No point watching American TV series

I won't watch Fringe, just because they advertise is as by the writers of the alleged Transformers live action movie.

Other series that JUST ENDED WITHOUT NOTICE

Joan Of Arcadia (een the actors were stunned!  but it still worked although it wasn't all wrapped up)

Kyle XY (Y?)

Ghost Whisperer (but it got so dumb the lasdt two seasons it desered it)

No Ordinary Family (WHY???!!!!  And why did it whey still release the DVD as the COMPLETE FIRST SEASON, as if they'd do another???!!!)

Pan Am (Then they replaced it with the horrible GCB, which, unlike Pan Am, I'e seen aailable on DVD)

As for the FLintstones, that's been done since 1966, but it wasn't an unfolding series in the mystery sense (although they added Pebbles in season 3, Bamm Bamm in series 4, Hoppy and the Weirdlys in season 5, and Gazoo in final season 6.)  FLintstones also had seeral movies beyond the series' finale (much like the Waltons), including A MAN NAMED FLINTSTONE, THE WEDDING OF PEBBLES & BAMM BAMM, THE FLINTSTONES MEET THE JETSONS, and others.  There were also spin off shows, including but not limited to THE PEBBLES & BAMM BAMM SHOW and the anacronistic FLINTSTONES KIDS (anachronistic not because of the coexisting dinos and people, but because that series took place when they were younger, in the year 1 million BC, but in the original series, as adults, 1 million BC was in the future.

NBC Really is the worst channel of all time.  They thank God that they hae the olympics, becuase they know that people will tune in eery two years!

As for How I met Your Mother: I wish that Ted would hurry up and meet the mother so all the people that hae been strung along all this time can say, "YAY!  Now I can tune out!", which people do anyway when partners comes on.  But despite trying to crank up the vulgarity, Big Bang theory has actually gotten funnier.

Re: No point watching American TV series

What makes the chances for Community to be renewed for a 5th season as probable as an ant jumping over a whale was the recent news that Chevy Chase (one of the main actors in the show) just left.
Even though that wasn't NBC's fault, they should really have convinced him to stay cause they had only 2 frickin' episodes left to shoot in the fourth season and now they have to write him out... GENIUS!

So NBC fired the creator and showrunner for the show totally out of nowhere (they just sent him a quick text saying he was fired, not even talking to him or anything), they then cut the 4th season in half. The airing date of episode 1 was supposed to be in the end of October but THEN they decided to move it to FEBRUARY to make place for other NBC shows. And now a main actor left.

This network has the brains of a paper

As much as I get that logic, you should definitely watch the show. It has a slow-starting first season, but from season two on, it's gold.

J.J Abrams didn't write Transformers mini/tongue

Unlike Transformers, Fringe is a very human story.  It has heart.  Just watch the pilot episode before you judge it.
