Actually Lucas had the trilogy written to be nine movies. In all likelihood the new ones might deal with the the Republic coming back to power. But that is only speculation.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

Best Star Wars in order of there greatness.
1. The Empire Strikes Back.
2. A New Hope.
3. Revenge of the Sith.
4. Return of the Jedi.
5. The Phantom Menace.
6. Attack of the clones.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones should tie for 10th place.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

And I'm not sure how Revenge of the Sith is better than Return of the Jedi, was there something I missed that was good in Revenge?

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

Yeah, in retrospect, Revenge really wasn't all that great. Return is the superior film between the two, and it's still the weakest of the original trilogy.

I love Star Wars don't get me wrong. But I have a problem how a legion of the best imperial Stormtroopers get taken out by little annoying teddy bears with sticks and rocks. If you flip the two one shows Anakin's fall and then Anakin's redemption.
Revenge also had the greatest light saber duel ever.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

If you are talking about the finale fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan... then you are gonna have a bad time against alot of other people on this thread, that fight is noooway near close to being the best light saber duel as it's WAY to long and didn't need to be that epic (I don't even need to explain more as our dear criminal mastermind Mr.Plinkett has already explained perfectly just why it doesn't work)

EDIT: I spent an hour on this random Disneyfied Star Wars poster for Episode 7 if you're interested lol

Sorry I don't agree. But that is just my opinion.
That's what makes this thread so great.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

But I just don't see how it can be more epic than (ironically) the one in Return. Luke vs Vader, their finale duel. There was alot going on between them that makes that duel mean so much more and have a much larger impact on the audience. We had learned earlier in the film that Luke really is Vader's son and now they are gonna have to fight each other. In Revenge it's like a copycat of that but it's ruined by the horribly written dialouge that surrounds it and it goes on for like a year until it gets boring and uninspiring.

Return of the Jedi is actually probably my favourite Star Wars film, apart from maybe Empire, I tend to go between the two. But yeah, as visually amazing as the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was it wasn't as epic as the fight in Return as we cared about that more. If we had actually been made to like Anakin (or even Obi Wan for that matter) as characters then the fight would probably be a lot more epic.
What made the fight in Return so epic wasn't just the fight itself but the meaning behind it all. Luke was having to face his own father and he wasn't even sure if he could beat him as he already failed in his previous battle. In the Revenge fight you hardly feel any attachment to the characters seeing as Obi Wan's been pretty stupid for the whole trilogy and Anakin has been ridiculously unlike-able.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

Revenge of the Sith had its moments. Kind of like how literally the only good part of The Phantom Menace was the lightsaber duel (when Brian Blessed or Samuel L Jackson can't redeem the film - you know its bad) . Yes, it was over-choreographed...but that's why I love it. Think about it: What use does the area they duel in have any use for other than to stage an epic duel? What use would a bottomless pit and a corridor filled with ray-shields have in a normal job? Does Naboo have this room reserved just for epic duels?

I've concluded that any moment when no-one talks in the prequel trilogy is great. The problem is that Episodes 1 and 2 are so badly written that there is never any quiet or reflective moments (and if there are, then they are over too quickly to note them). Episode 3 actually takes its time at points. I still find the sequence where Order 66 is carried out very powerful - mostly because George is letting the visuals and John Williams do the talking. In addition, the scene where Anakin and Padme are staring out across the city towards each-over is very powerful - again, because of the music and visuals doing the work. Lucas could have had a long scene with Padme and Anakin talking about what to do next, but he actually made the smart choice of having them both feeling each-overs presence and having a spiritual moment in the sunset. Also, the part where Darth Vader is finally put together and rises from the slab is brilliant...until they start talking and Lucas ruins it all by having Vader yell "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", which always makes me burst out laughing.

I actually prefer Episode 2 over Episode 1 because Episode 1 is boring and pointless. Episode 2 has the more painful writing - but its actually relevant to the story arc. Everything established in Episode 1 is re-established in Episode 2 because so much time has passed (though its nice to see that only Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Palpatine have actually aged). Qui-Gon dies, Darth Maul dies, Palpatine becomes Chancellor, Anakin's power is never mentioned again, and the dreaded 'M' word is only mentioned very briefly in Episode 3. Plus, at least they filled Episode 2 with action scenes to keep the kids entertained. Episode 1 just drags on and on and on with nothing actually happening. The plot has nothing to do with anything - its just revolving around this insignificant planet and this insignificant federation. The government and the Jedi council are absolutely useless - with Yoda just sitting around barking "HE IS TOO OLD!" and Samuel L Jackson acting as though he's been pumped with tranquillisers (WORST. CASTING DECISION. EVER)

But, this is all irrelevant now we have another load of films coming out. I'm hoping Disney will look online and see how people are reacting to the prospect of more films and think "You know, maybe we should just keep churning out the toys and let the films die". But they wont.

Damn capitalism....

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

All good points gentlemen.
And you could argue that yes it was Luke fighting his dad that made it epic and the emotions he was feeling in the process.
But also think of Obi One and the feelings he had for Anakin seeing he had been with since he was a boy and the father son relationship Anakin always spoke of that he had with Obi One.
You could say the two duels are similar in the relationship between the antagonists.
Luke I agree never knew his dad and to find out hey this dark Lord is your dad and you must kill him to bring balance to the force
is quite the burden to deal with.
Where the same thing with Obi One with Yoda telling him he has to kill Anankin.
So you could say the emotional attachment is the same in both cases.
Except I agree the father son bond is stronger then the adopted father son forged between Anakin and Obi One.
But visually I just find the duel much more epic then the duel between Luke and Vader.

For Disney it is like walking into the city of gold.
How much can we take and how many trips it is going to take to clean it right out.

You only need to use the 'edit' button and take a few words from each quote rather than having to post multiple times and quote an entire post. It'll save you a lot of time and will comfort the OCD freak inside us all.

Its OK, I used to do it too...

And don't quote such big images. Just put the words in the quote and say (img) instead.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

I heard of that. But even if there are scripts by Lucas himself, I honestly don't see a reason for why or how the story will continue. It just seems pretty wrapped up to me already.

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

Re: DISNEY BOUGHT LUCASFILMS AND STAR WARS EPISODE VII!

In a recent interview, Lucas claims he has story treatments for Episode 7, 8 and 9 - in addition to "a bunch of other movies", but he also refers to "[a bunch of] other comics and books" - which obviously means the Expanded Universe. So, it is likely that either he's taking story treatments other people has written (he doesn't say that he wrote them - just that he 'has' them, which is broad considering he still 'has' everything in the world related to Star Wars), or he's done a rough synopsis of the movies in the past but has either abandoned them or waited for someone else to take over.

Lucas is untrustworthy with stuff like this. He admitted a few years ago that he'd lied about having all six episodes written before shooting on Episode 4 began. Its possible he'd done drafts or at least outlines of Episode 5 and 6 (and maybe thought about the possibility of another trilogy) - but he enlisted co-writers for those two films, and its never explained if the writing process was a re-write or actually writing from scratch. Basically: Ignore everything Lucas has ever said/hinted.
