Topic: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

Hey guys, firstly I would like to thank @Pritchard Studios, @minifig051 (Thank you very much for suggesting to add more frames it was a fantastic idea!), Adalbertus, and smeagol (For just being such a big motivation) thanks a lot guys for giving me motivation and on going support, I really appreciate it,

another thing you guy's mentioned in my last test that it was really choppy and unrealistic, and that it had alot of light flicker, well i hope this video shows you different. I took your advice and i feel i have improved on the walking cycle part though please tell me if theres something wrong, or what i should work on next.

Thanks everyone in advance.

Heres the link hope you guys enjoy; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MCcIFMC … ature=plcp

Re: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

That's much better.

The main thing you need to work on is keeping the back straight. There were some parts where it seemed like you forgot which direction you were moving the arms or legs in. If you get confused, you can look back at the frames you took. Also, when you swing the arms, try to make the arm go back and forth between the same two points; I noticed that the arm didn't go back as far on some swings than others.

How many frames is that walk cycle you used? What I mean is: Say the first frame of a walk cycle is the foot in front, arms at their furthest positions. If there are 6 frames between that frame and the next frame where the (opposite) foot is in front, then it would be a 6-frame walk cycle. (I use a 6-frame walk cycle myself.)

(You're welcome.)

Re: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

I agree with minifig051. At this point you seem to understand how to execute the walk cycle, it's just about practicing over and over again until it gets smooth. Also, what frame rate are you using, and how are you achieving it in editing?

Re: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

@minifig051 Hey thanks for your reply, yer I do agree with you very much, and yes i did forget a few times haha I guess I'm still getting the hang of it, and yer I was worried the arm movement was going to be noticeable but I will fix that up next time.

Also the frame cycle starting with the foot front is a 5 frame walk cycle, I find it efficient but I admire how you use 6, I would like to try it, and thanks again.
BTW I like liked your Lego Charlotte's Web, it was funny!

@backyardlegos firstly I wanted to say I really enjoyed you film Enlightment, and yes I will continue to keep practicing, I do feel I have executed the walk cycle as well which I'm very proud but we all know that's just a baby step in brickfilming, next I want to learn how to perform a run cycle, masking, editing, special effects, fx, audio.

And I have always used 15 FPS within the 3 test films I've made, for editing all I am using at the moment is Monkey Jam for frame capture and then exporting it as an AVI, though I now have windows live movie maker, some audio software for sound editing, and planning to get after effects and sony vegas.

Cheers guys. I'll keep you's up to date!

Wut?
That was Mickey's film, not mine. I just voice acted in it. All the films on my profile are other people's films I voiced in (under the header "Voice Actor"). If I released a film, it would show up under the "Director" section.

If you want to see something I made, here you go.

Oh haha im sorry, i must have mistaken it!

btw love the kitchen set and how the minifig just made it show! Good work!

Made a fourth test, from now on I hope for my films to have voices, or some kind of music.
This test is also longer than all the others at 26 seconds as i have added a few things such as opening credits and ending credits, along with a new testing of typing on a computer and turning on corners! hope you enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU07ySsR … e=youtu.be

Thanks.

Hmm... The leg movement is good, but the arm movement is kinda jerky. Can I see a frame-by-frame of that walk cycle to see what you're doing?

Sorry for the late reply I ran out of internet for which movement btw?

thanks.

Way better! Although I noticed one step repeated. Great progress though!

Both; the entire walk cycle. I want to see where you have both the legs and arms for all the frames of the walk cycle you're using.

Re: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

Not Bad,

But, the arms of your minifig rise too high and too fast. This is almost a military march accelerated. Test a little break (2 frame more) for your WalkCycle be more harmonious.

To show a frame-by-frame, just make each frame last about three seconds.

Watched your video. Why is it so choppy? The framerate was much faster on your tests.
Also, it seems more like a single secne of a film rather than a film itself. The shot angles didn't change much. I got bored of it quickly. To make something more interesting, add music and change up the shots a bit.
I saw the edge of the baseplate in one shot. You might want to avoid that.

What did you mean by each frame 3 seconds?

And the reason you may have noticed it being choppy is for the fact I added voices, so I had to extend the frames, The shot angles didn't change much due to the shortage of plates, I only have one grey base plate 20x20 and a green one of 12x12 so It's rather hard atm, and yer I'll avoid showing it next time something small I missed, and I'll defiantly add music next time and change the shots more still practicing!

Thanks for your feedback.

Extend the frames like you did, with each one lasting three seconds.

This is what I meant by taking more frames. I see you're just capturing beginning and end of each movement (something I call "endframing"). Endframing, as we see, produces choppiness. A more fluid movement can be achieved by taking more frames for each movement. I can show you a frame-by-frame of my animation so you can see what I mean.

Okay, so I took one of my recent tests (a talking movement one; a simple arm raise) and edited it. I don't have time to upload it to YouTube now; I'll do it tomorrow.

Re: Hey guys my third test! walking cycle much improved please watch!

OKAY. I finally got it up.

I had some problems with Lightworks exporting at the wrong resolution, which I didn't notice until I uploaded it. I had to rexport it TWICE before I got it fixed. Then, there was this multicolored line across the screen after I uploaded it. I reuploaded it, but it was denided because I forgot to delete the other one. I had to delete both and reupload it AGAIN, and it still had THAT STUPID STINKING MULTICOLORED RAINBOWPOOP LINE!!!

Well, after all that, here it is.
