Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I've been working on it some more and this is how it looks:

https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1.0-9/q71/s720x720/1509321_844871005527081_4395841507836144602_n.jpg

I still think making the columns wider near the top would be rather nice, however, I haven't found a way to do that yet.  I've spent several hours fiddling around with possible designs, but none of them work particularly well.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Those are awfully high steps for a minifig. Is this just for the background?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I will be adding one more step so it'll be more consistent.  Two thirds a brick per step is a pretty reasonable thing for steps.

Wow that looks a lot better.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I've taken a picture of the town square with most of the elements of the film I've made thus far all together (besides the trees and the non-minifigure antagonist) it's taken me a month and a half to get this far:

Next I'll have to build the landscape itself, but before I do that, I'm going to have to animate the woman's car driving along the rode for around about 750 frames to accommodate the narration.  For this I'm going to have to build a large number of small road sets and continually build, deconstruct, and re-build them to make it look like she's traveling across different places.

Neat! Hey Squid, are you going to film on that table or on a Lego plate?

I'm building a massive landscape for the town.
It will be quite detailed and cover over 1000 studs total area.  It will also be elevated a dozen studs or so above the base plats on the table as so I can work in certain details I need.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That looks pretty nice. I really like the sculpture in the middle, with the low, circular brick wall surrounding it (what kind of pieces are those making the wall?). Also, adding that fourth step on the courthouse improves it's look. One odd thing is that the roof on the left looks like it's slanted slightly.

Looks nice Squid, and if the landscape is as good as you usually do, this will be an amazing set.

Squid, I'm really looking forward to seeing these bricks in motion.

Looks really cool like it a lot . My only critique Would be the door on the left building. It looks a bit off. but thats just my opinion. I do think it would look a lot better though if you could move it in one stud or take it off.

You can't see the door of the building to the most left.  I'm unsure of your meaning.

Also, I realized that that picture only showed you guys one blade of the windmill, here's a full picture:

https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2917/14093960501_c34e526bf9_b.jpg

I was glad to find a use for that rare roof piece.

The windmill has several gears inside and a crank on the back.  It all works similarly to my dolly rig.  One turn of the crank results in the blades of the windmill moving only slightly, thus I should be able to animate it smoothly and consistently over many frames.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I'm not a huge fan of the sticker brick pattern, but as long as there aren't any really close up shots of it I think it will be fine. I like the rest of the design, though. mini/smile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I love this windmill. I love all the Darkmoor sets, and can't wait for the film. Like, I've become such an Annoying Noises fanboy it's unreal mini/lol you need to stop, Squid, you're making me and my meagre sets feel so inadequate.

I have one qualm, though. The actual blades are a little too solid; if you look at real windmills a lot of them are grilled.

I can't wait to see it in terrain, though. That'll enhance it so much.

That's really nice, I love the depth. The (bench?) in the middle looks a little too tall though, it takes up a lot of space.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I feel that there are far too many brick bricks.
It makes a pattern which I feel appears far too repetitive.
