Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I built a miniature of the ship itself for the scifi set.

I'm a bit annoyed with most spaceships in fiction having ridiculously unrealistic thruster configuration and would never be able to actually maneuver in space.  For this, however, I've specifically designed it to have a somewhat reasonable means of propulsion.  It has three forward thrusters and three break thrusters as well as six turn thrusters on the side so that it can spin.  There are also three gigantic guns.  Most of the livable space is in the sphere at the front, the rest of it is filled with all sorts of fancy stuff to power the engines but with several maintenance shafts for repairs.  In an emergency, the environmental sphere can be ejected from the rest of the ship and is capable of landing itself safely upon a nearby planet.

I should be able to add the mod element to the support which means I won't have to modify the model at all.

That is so darn cool. I love the use of the cauldron like piece. mini/smile

That's amazing mini/bigsmile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Wow, that's great. It would be the greatest ship ever made if there was a Top-Hat on it mini/tongue

Digbot rocks, and so does scifi interior.  I love robots!

Here's a brick-built Sauron. Bit dodgy, but I like him. I didn't think I had the pieces to finish the legs, and wouldn't have been able to animate anything that big if I had. He barely fits in my studio, which isn't all that big anyway. Still, I think he's kinda' cool. He's also missing the One Ring and his mace, but oh well.

I'm going to take him apart tomorrow. It's a shame, but I don't know that I can actually use him for an animation. He's pretty big, and his joints don't really allow for  easy animation. I had an idea to try and copy the perspective on some of the shots from the Battle of the Last Alliance (I've even made an Isildur minifigure) but I just don't have the space. A shame.

Oh, and with the exception of a few black 1X2 plates, he's made entirely from pieces from Super Heroes sets.

No, don't destroy him!
He looks great!
At least do some tests with him before dooming him back to the unsorted-tub-of-horror. mini/wink
Please?

GOOD GUMDROP, MAN!  You've just pushed your MOCing ability to fantastic new heights.  That's really, really good.

Wow - I didn't expect such a positive response!

Actually, I just went and sorted the grey, black, stickered and trans-colour bricks from my Super Heroes sets mini/smile  wow, colour-sorting LEGO makes me so cool. Having them so easily to hand was the only reason I was able to make this guy so quickly.

I've done one test already, but the problem is the Knights Kingdom joints. I had this in the past, when I made a model of the Mata Nui robot: they're really bad for stop-motion because they only click into place in a number of ways.

Coming from you, that's especially awesome - thanks!

This is my second attempt at a huge, brick-built character, and I think this has gone much better. I'll try and animate him a little bit more, but then I think I must dismantle him mini/twitch

It's a Piet Mondrian lego mosaic if you didn't know

It's not that significant but at my school I'm part of an experimental art club and this week was lego mosaics. It was good fun though not that hard to do.

I also made Lizaru's Veno-porter Sleigh for a Ninjago video I'm now not going to do. The sleigh looks horrible, but that's the idea - it's appearance was going to be a running gag, at Lizaru's expense. The machine is supposed to be powered by two of the snake tribe's venom staffs.

I eventually decided the plot was dodgy and the transporter was too big for my animation setup, and was a little too horrible looking.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Could you post a clearer picture? It's so obscured that I'm not sure what I'm looking at. This looks more like a frame from a film.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's the thing about my camera. I can't get a good shot of it with out some part of it being blurry. I'll try though.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That's what focus is. You just have to focus the lens on the part of the shot you want to be clearest.

Lower the aperture from an f/5.6 or whatever its currently on down to at a 22 to decrease the depth of field. They say an aperture of f/19 gets you the best quality images.
