Topic: Return of the Rep Meter?
Just a thought. I'd love to see it back, and I'm sure a lot of people would too.
I'll be back animating soon! Exams and computer faults are keeping me away </3

I dunno... I like yet hate it too.
It was a nice idea, but there was too many !@#$%^& complaining about it to the point where it was removed probably just to stop all the whining.
If it returns, it's probably going to be the same as before (a bunch of n00bs whining about it because they're -50).
But that's essentially removing something to appeal to the lowest common dominator.
NO.
But seriously though, that thing was biased.
People might plus a person's post not because of what they said was helpful or unhelpful, but for other reasons like how good they are at brickfilming and how much they are respected in general on this site. Even though the respected members deserve it, they might get plused no matter what they say.
Noobs may deserve a minus as well, but it could be just because someone doesn't like the person or finds them annoying.
So they might get minused no matter what they say.
People also could have misunderstood the meaning of it, thinking it's a like/dislike post thing.
What I'm trying to say here is, many people didn't use it for its intended reason. It was just making the more popular members feel good and the less popular members feel worse. It was basically used as a popularity meter.

I agree with you
I think the number of points people had was generally pretty accurate, but the whole thing was pretty ineffective. Those who had the very lowest were the kind of people who weren't about to turn it around. Case in point: cooldynamyteproductions, who thought his unbelievably low rep was because he spelled 'dynamite' incorrectly in his username. I'm not making this up.
I concur with Hazzat.
I tried it because it works on some sites and I wanted to see if people here, as a general rule, were mature enough to handle it. They weren't.
I don't mean that as a condemnation of this whole community. We have a lot of fairly young kids here, and that's unavoidable given the LEGO movie theme I think, but it does mean you have to greatly lower your expectations for the maturity of the forum users.
Basically, the community in general here isn't mature enough for it to work effectively.
The rating of negative 50 theoretically should seem like a motivation for one to get their reputation up. I think it would increase the amount of helpful posts from them. I know it did for me, because before I would post something I would think to myself "Is this really helpful to the topic?" lest someone vote it down.
No,i don't want it back, the whole thing was bad.
Like,when i posted a film that wasn't that good,and i got a TON of - on it.
yes,it was a popularity meter, even if some n00b posted something helpful,he would still get - because he/she makes bad brickfilms.
Yes,the whole thing wasn't to see if the post was helpful or not,it was determined if you got - or + because you were popular on youtube or not.

That's true,Hazzat is not lying.

This. While some members are, we do get a lot of members who are going to abuse the power to anonymously say 'I dislike this'.
Then BiM would turn into a sort of madhouse facebook I think. And that takes away the motivation of trying not to get a negative rep.
I personally would like the rep meter to come back, just to see all the reactions, but it would just be too much trouble. Like, the same exact people would complain (you know who you are) that "Oh, my rep meter is REALLY low because people don't like me!", and all that crap.
Would it be funny? Yes.
Should we do it? No.
You know what I don't like about these things? It allows people to show their approval/disapproval of something without explaining why. It's the lazy way to give criticism, and it doesn't do anything for the person who is getting upvoted or downvoted.
For example, if we had a like/dislike button, I could have just downvoted this thread because I think it's a stupid idea, but then no one knows why I think it's a stupid idea.

I reckon you hit the nail on the head there, LB. Accountability is key.

+1 with no explanation as to why given.
